Why attend Achieving Accreditation in 2014? 1It s designed as the first step in the accreditation process. Whether it s your first survey or your tenth, this program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to lead your team through the accreditation process. I have had several surveys through the years but I was amazed at how much I learned at the conference. Dec 2012 attendee 2 You can t get this from a webinar. Don t get us wrong, webinars are great for targeted learning in fact, we develop them for that purpose but the best way to immerse yourself in what AAAHC accreditation means for your organization, is two days of focused learning among your peers. 3 To get to know AAAHC surveyors and staff. We call it relationship-based accreditation. We want to get to know your organization and we want you to know ours. 4 To see your organization from a surveyor s perspective. With so many surveyors at the seminar, you ll really learn what they re looking for to demonstrate that you re meeting, or exceeding, the Standards. I loved that there was a mix of instructors that are still working in the field and go through the accreditation process with their own organizations. The experience and knowledge from both the inspection side and the preparation side was so valuable. Sept 2013 attendee 5 AAAHC surveyors are knowledgeable. And nice. Many of our most experienced surveyors are on hand as general session faculty, as break-out facilitators, as panelists, and as elective leaders. Others are fulfilling their commitment to bi-annual retraining. You will meet some of them, too. Great interaction with AAAHC staff, surveyors and other attendees. June 2013 attendee
6 9 To walk take a the Handbook. through The program kicks off with an overview of the core Standards. Day Two begins with the adjunct Standards most relevant to your practice setting. You leave with a strong overview of what the Standards are about and how they interrelate. Most beneficial was the step-by-step walk-through of each core chapter. Sept 2012 attendee 7 To find out what s changing. AAAHC Standards are revised each year. You ll want to know what s new and different to keep your organization up to date. AAAHC works to keep the Standards relevant across all types of ambulatory health care facilities. We re looking for evidence-based best practices that will improve the organization overall, with a specific focus on quality of care and patient safety issues. Frank Chapman, AAAHC Surveyor 8 To bring new staff up to speed (especially if that s you!). I am a new manager and new to ASCs, so this was great pulling so much info together. Thanks! Sept 2012 attendee To learn the survey process from start to finish. How and when do I submit an application? How are surveys scheduled? How can I get help? What will the survey team expect while they re with us? What happens after they leave? (You know you ve got questions.) 10 To experience great instructors. I really appreciate that they took time to answer our questions. Everyone was generous with their answers and very approachable. It was truly a learning environment. June 2013 attendee 11 To finally get QI. At some point the light bulb went on and it was very, very good. September 2012 attendee 12-14 Network, network, network. It was beneficial to me to be with other ophthalmology groups. Sept 2012 attendee Endoscopy Centers normally have to listen to a lot of information that does not pertain to them directly. Thank you for a break out session specifically for endoscopy. June 2013 attendee The Native American breakout session was good, made good contacts. June 2013 attendee
15 To grow your kit of tools. You ll receive the Accreditation Handbook in two formats, copies of the presentations, Patient Safety Tools, and more. 16-17 To understand Medicare Deemed Status for ASCs and Life Safety Code Requirements. Whether or not your Medicare-certified ASC participates in the AAAHC Deemed Status program, it must comply with the requirements of the 2000 edition of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code. This elective session clarifies what you need to do to meet the major requirements. ASCs in our Medicare Deemed Status program are surveyed on AAAHC Standards and CMS Conditions for Coverage every three years. And we now have Life Safety Code Surveyors specifically privileged to focus on those requirements so that the rest of the survey team can spend more time interacting with the organization and less time on ladders with measuring tapes. Mary Wei, Assistant Director, Accreditation Services 18 To get the most from the survey experience. Get it right, right at the start, with an orientation for your survey team. Share with us what makes your organization shine. We want to give credit for everything that you do. Raymond Grundman, AAAHC Surveyor, AAAHC Sr. Director, External Relations 19 The Chat Room. It s like speed dating for accreditation. Except more honest. Ask us any lingering questions. We ll give you straight answers. I brought 12 specific questions to the chat room. All of these questions were answered. I enjoyed the setting and the people. March 2013 attendee 20 Hotel service was great. June 2013 (San Diego) attendee Great locations. Location was superb great city! September 2012 () attendee AAAHC puts on a VERY nice conference, very organized, and nice setting. Impressed. September 2013 (St. Louis) attendee
21 Because Your organization type is: Ambulatory surgery center College health center Community health center Dental group practice Diagnostic imaging center Endoscopy center Health plan/managed care organization Immediate/Urgent care center Indian health center Lithotripsy center Medical Home Military health care clinic Multi-specialty group practice Office-based anesthesia organization Office-based surgery center Oral/maxillofacial surgery office Women s health center We accredit all of these and more! 22 To earn CNE contact hours. The fine print: This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Approval valid through 5/24/2015. ONA #16228. Participants who meet the criteria for successful completion of this activity will earn 11.0 contact hours. Breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks are included both days, and there s a cocktail reception on Friday evening as well. I loved the organic tea and wonderful treats afternoon tea with cookies was heaven. Having wonderful food makes the conference so much better. Thank you for paying attention to details like that. It was very much noticed and appreciated. December 2012 attendee 24 To work through a QI study. Talk topics, grapple with goals, master measurement, and conceive corrective actions with your peers, in setting-specific break outs. QI study evaluations were excellent probably the best thing ever presented. September 2012 attendee 25 To understand AAAHC Medical Home programs. For primary care organizations considering recognition as a Medical Home, this elective explains our programs and reviews our Medical Home Standards.
26 To learn how the pieces fit together. You can read the Handbook in a room by yourself. In fact, we recommend a certain level of concentration! But accreditation is like a puzzle: when you know how the pieces fit, you ll get the big picture. I ve been involved with AAAHC since its inception and it never fails I can look across the room at Achieving Accreditation and see the aha reaction on people s faces as they see how it and every aspect of their organization contributes to the care they deliver. Marshall Baker, AAAHC surveyor 27 For guidance on Medical Home implementation. We want your Medical Home to succeed! This elective is an interactive panel discussion to answer the Now, what? and How do we? questions. 28 To ask an APIC expert. Infection Prevention and Control is always a hot topic. This popular session is built around questions provided by attendees on Day One. They are sorted by category and relevance to surgical or primary care and a panel of APIC experts and surveyors present the Q&A in a lively discussion on Day Two. 29 Because everyone likes to bring home some souvenirs. I learned a lot from the large group sessions, but the Friday afternoon small group was AWESOME. The class was information-packed and very detailed. I took home so many ideas and questions for my own practice. June 2013 attendee We took several staff so we were able to discuss material at the training rather than bring it back and try to remember. June 2013 attendee 30 To learn how the Standards work in your setting. I find that the small groups foster really helpful discussions about putting the Standards into action. There are a lot of equally valid ways to meet specific Standards. That discovery builds so much confidence in a team preparing for a survey. Margaret Spear, MD, AAAHC Board Chair and Surveyor
31 To experience a range of learning methods. Achieving Accreditation includes learning in lectures, small group discussions, hands-on QI training, Q&A sessions, and unstructured meal and refreshment breaks. The plenary sessions were quite helpful for understanding the core Standards. However, the breakout sessions were invaluable in giving me a chance to meet others from Student Health Centers and discuss the issues that are unique to our institutions. Sept 2012 attendee 32 Because it s fun. Thank you so much for a great couple days. Very informative and helpful! Very nice venue, good staff, good food, fair price. Overall, great time and we will hope for a great walk through the accreditation process...thank you. September 2013 attendee 33 To get it right (finally) regarding emergency drills. Is it one a quarter or four a year? What kind do we need? How do we show that they were done? 34 To understand Standards on privileging requirements. There s a lot to learn about privileging and credentialing it s a big topic that relates directly to patient safety. At Achieving Accreditation we share with organizations what we teach our surveyors to look for so that everyone is on the same page. Jack Egnatinsky, MD, AAAHC Medical Director and Surveyor 35 To celebrate! It s our 35th anniversary! AAAHC has worked to advance and promote patient safety, quality of care and performance measurement since 1979. We ve grown to become the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation. As our flagship educational program, Achieving Accreditation is part of the reason why. I thought the program was excellent, well organized and extremely beneficial for me in all areas. I have been through 2 accreditations and still find this course to be a must for my organization prior to a survey as a refresher for areas without change and for fine tuning areas where change has occurred over the past 3 years. Networking opportunities are excellent. Sept 2013 attendee Register online at aaahc.org Select Education>Achieving Accreditation at the top of the page.
