Please send your OATR and ONE (1) adult leader to check-in. HOW TO REGISTER? Register online OR complete and send the enclosed registration form to Camping Services at the Heart of America Council along with payment, payable to the Heart of America Council, by the appropriate deadline for the weekend. The first $20 of each individual s fees is non-refundable; the remaining balance of each individual s fees is transferable only within the calendar year. Be sure to fill out the back portion if there are any special needs that require attention including special meal requests. ArrowPass registrants should be listed on your roster, but they do not need to pay through your unit registration. ArrowPass event registrants will be verified before you check-in at Inductions.

My fellow Arrowmen, I am excited for the year ahead of us! With Inductions quickly approaching this spring, the Lodge Executive Committee has been working diligently to provide a quality experience to all who enter the gates of Naish or Bartle. Our versatile program will extend to all council camps; we will continue to serve all Brothers in the Heart of America Council. Last year, we inducted over 700 new members into our honored Order, and almost 400 Arrowmen sealed their membership by becoming Brotherhood Members. We will also have programs available for those not involved in the Induction process, such as the Trail to Eagle training and the climbing tower. Tamegonit Lodge has a variety of opportunities to get involved. The best and easiest way is to attend Chapter meetings (typically at your district s roundtable), where your Chapter Chief will pass along information about all of events for this year. Our chapters are responsible for doing our unit elections and callouts. Additionally, if you take any photos of Arrowman at any Scouting event, including inductions, please send them to socialmediachair@tamegonit.org. All Arrowmen, youth and adult, are also welcome to attend our Lodge Executive Committee meetings, occurring once a month at the council service center, typically at 7 on the third Thursday of the month. As always, the TWO-WEEK REGISTRATION DEADLINE is in effect. In past years this policy has eased the process of sharing advance information with participants, allowed for faster check-in, and made for better planning of food and supplies for candidates and campers, allowed earlier publishing of scheduled ceremonies. ORDER OF THE ARROW INDUCTION WEEKEND INFORMATION FOR ORDEAL AND BROTHERHOOD CANDIDATES EVERYONE IN ATTENDANCE MUST PRE-REGISTER THROUGH THIS EVENT, INCLUDING NON-ARROWMEN. A CURRENT BOY SCOUT HEALTH FORM IS REQUIRED FOR EACH ATTENDEE. TWO-DEEP LEADERSHIP IS REQUIRED FOR EACH TROOP. ONLY ARROWMEN ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND OA CEREMONIES. NON-ARROWMEN ARE WELCOME TO DISCUSS THE OA CEREMONIES WITH THE LODGE CHIEF, LODGE ADVISER, OR LODGE STAFF ADVISER. HEALTH & SAFETY: All candidates and campers are advised that safety is of the utmost importance throughout the weekend. Youth and adult OA staff will be prepared all weekend to ensure health and safety. Please make sure you are drinking water throughout the day; if you are feeling sick, tired, nauseous, achy, or feel otherwise unwell, inform your leader and take steps to take care of yourself! If you are tired, take a break and drink some water! Make sure to drink water throughout the day. You will be doing physical labor; regardless of how cold or hot it is, you will need to drink plenty of water! Much will be asked of you as an Ordeal Candidate, but your health and safety must come first! As a candidate or camper, you should be prepared to take basic steps to take care of yourself; drink lots of water! What to Expect: Upon arrival, units will need to check-in. Camping location, schedule and other important information will be emailed in advance of your arrival. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO USE A VALID AND WORKING EMAIL ADDRESS WHEN PRE-REGISTERING TO RECEIVE THIS INFORMATION! The openings will be held in the Campfire Arena at staggered times based on the schedule provided in advance of your arrival. All Ordeal and Brotherhood candidates, Runners, Nimats and Elangomats, should be present and prepared to begin the weekend at this time. Along with them, we will require one adult and one youth representative from each unit to attend the opening. Immediately following each opening, we will discuss emergency procedures, K.P. responsibilities and other information for the weekend with these unit representatives. Brotherhood Candidates should study the Brotherhood Membership Questions and Answers found in the National OA Handbook and write their letter of rededication prior to their arrival at camp. Brotherhood candidates are expected to wear their Field Uniforms. Those Brotherhood members will be expected to serve the lodge on Saturday. The Brotherhood hike and Ceremony will take place Saturday afternoon. Brotherhood candidates must have also paid their 2017 Tamegonit Lodge Dues prior to arriving at the Induction event. Ordeal Candidates are expected to wear their Field Uniform and to bring all gear properly packed in a backpack to the opening ceremony so that they can participate in their Pre-Ordeal Ceremony Friday night. Ordeal Candidates complete their Ordeal and become members of the lodge during Saturday evening ceremonies. All Arrowmen are invited to a fellowship crackerbarrel after Ordeal ceremonies. New Ordeal members can gather membership-related information on Sunday morning at Arrowmen 101. Persons with special needs (medical and/or dietary) must complete a Special Needs Request Form and submit it with the registration form. In addition to your normal camping gear, Ordeal Candidates should also bring the following: 1. Plastic ground cloth 2. Sleeping bag 3. Full Scout Uniform 4. Work clothes and gloves 5. Backpack 6. ORDEAL MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS (YOUTH): To become eligible for election, a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America and have the approval of his unit leader prior to the election. The unit leader must certify his Scout spirit (i.e., his adherence to the Scout Oath and Law and active participation in unit activities). The unit leader must also certify that the nominee meets all speci fied requirements at the time of this annual election. All members of, or candidates for membership in, the Order of the Arrow who are under 21 years of age shall be considered youth members or candidates for youth membership, subject to meeting the following requirements: Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America. Hold the First Class rank of the Boy Scouts of America, as a minimum. After registration with a troop or team, have experienced 15 nights of Boy Scout camping during the two -year period prior to the election. The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of five consecutive nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps Candidates for youth membership shall be elected by other youth members in accordance with policies set forth by the national Order of the Arrow committee. Completion of the Ordeal is the youth s final task to entering the Order of the Arrow. ORDEAL MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS (ADULT): Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for youth candidates that results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may nominate adults to the lodge adult selection committee, composed of the lodge adviser, the chairman of the council committee on which the lodge adviser serves, and the lodge staff adviser. Adult nomination forms are provided by the lodge and must be completed to consider the adult unit leader for induction to the Order of the Arrow. The number of adults nominated can be no more than one-third of the number of youth candidates elected, rounded up where the number of youth candidates is not a multiple of three. In addition to the one-third limit, the unit committee may nominate the currently serving unit leader (but not assistant leaders), as long as he or she has served as unit leader for at least the previous 12 months. Recommendations of the adult selection committee, with the approval of the Scout executive, serving as Supreme Chief of the Fire, will be candidates for induction, provided the following conditions are fulfilled: Selection of the adult is based on the ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and not for recognition of service, including current or prior achievement and positions. The individual will be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities that fulfill the purpose of the Order. The camping requirements set forth for youth members are fulfilled. The adult leader s membership will provide a positive example for the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge. Nomination into the Order of the Arrow of an adult Scouter should take place only when the adult's job in Boy Scouting will make Order of the Arrow membership more meaningful in the lives of the youth membership. Conditions listed on the Unit Adult Candidate Recommendation form MUST be fulfilled. BROTHERHOOD MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS (ALL ORDEAL MEMBERS): An Ordeal member, who has served at least ten months, may become a Brotherhood member when he has completed the Challenges of Brotherhood Membership listed in the Lodge handbook: 1. Memorize the signs of OA membership 2. Advance in your understanding of the Ordeal 3. Serve your unit 4. Plan for service in your lodge 5. Review your progress 6. Write letter of intent When the challenges have been completed, the Ordeal member should present himself at the appropriate time as a candidate for Brotherhood membership. This may be done at the scheduled Tamegonit Lodge Inductions. ELECTION PROCESS 1. The requirements for membership in the Tamegonit Lodge will follow those stated in the current printing of the Order of the Arrow Handbook. 2. The procedure for unit elections will follow those stated in the current printing of the Guide for Officers and Advisers. 3. All election results must be approved by the Lodge Unit Elections Committee. 4. All call-outs are to be done at a Chapter level. 5. Procedures for the Ordeal process will follow those stated in the current printings of the Order of the Arrow Handbook and the Guide for Officers and Advisers.
