C. 20 November 1959 1. Purpose and Scope. a. This Bulletin is published for the purpose of prescribing cleaning instructions for Match Grade weapons and to prevent unnecessary damage, wear, and lose of accuracy due to excessive disassembly, assembly, an cleaning. b. This bulletin contains information pertaining to care and cleaning of National Match Grade weapons at user level. c. The instructions contained herein apply to National Match Grade Ordnance type weapons and commercial Match Grade weapons only. Weapons designated as training types are not included. d. Where instructions contained herein conflict with previously published directives, these instructions will govern. 2. Rifles. a. Rifle, U.S., Caliber.30, M1, National Match. (1) The bore and chamber will be cleaned and oiled as required after firing without field stripping the weapon. (2) The magazine well and bolt face will be cleaned with a suitable brush and riflebore cleaner, wiped dry, and lightly oiled. (3) the trigger group may be removed at the option of the shooter and cleaned as in (2) above without disassembling the group. (4) When field stripping is required due to loss of power and/or accuracy, the rifle will be disassembled by the unit armorer sufficiently to give access to the areas requiring care. After cleaning, the unit armorer will assemble the rifle and perform so much of the inspection prescribed in paragraph 6d, TB 9-2316/1, as may be applicable. b. Commercial Match Grade Rifles All Makes, Calibers, and Models. (1) The bore and chamber will be cleaned and oiled, as required, after firing without field stripping the weapon. (2) The bolt group may be removed for cleaning. Bolt will not be disassembled for this maintenance. (3) Trigger mechanisms will be removed and replaced only by the unit armorer. (4) When cleaning of a more thorough nature (5) After cleaning as in paragraph 3 (4), the unit armorer will perform so much of the inspection for the rifle in question prescribed for commercial rifles in TB 9-2316/1. 3. Pistols. a. Pistol, U. S. Caliber.45, M1911A1, National Match. (1) The bore and chamber of the pistol will be cleaned and oiled without field stripping the weapon. (2) The magazine well, bullet ramp, and the face of the slide group will be cleaned and oiled using a suitable brush and cloth. 1

TB 9-1005-226-12 (3) When cleaning of a more thorough nature is determined necessary by the shooter, (4) Magazines will be cleaned on external surfaces only an lightly oiled. (5) After cleaning as in (3) above, the unit armorer will perform so much of the inspection prescribed in paragraph 6g, TB 9-2316/1, as may be applicable. b. Pistols and Revolvers, Commercial Match Grade All Makes, Calibers, and Models. (1) The bore and chamber (cylinder) will be cleaned and oiled without field stripping the weapon. (2) Bullet ramps, slide faces, and magazine wells of pistols will be cleaned as fin a(2) above. Recoil plates of revolvers will be likewise cleaned. (3) Magazines will be cleaned as in a(4) above. (4) When cleaning of a more thorough nature is determined necessary by the shooter, (5) After cleaning as in (4) above, the unit armorer will perform so much of the inspection (for the commercial pistol or revolver) prescribed in TB 9-2316/1, as may be applicable.
