Why is Certification Important? Establishing a goal provides vendors and contractors a preference in selection for the use of public funds Management and control by veterans is critical to prevent abuse of the preference Certification facilitates development of a data base to provide prime contractors, and To provide support and resources to developing businesses
Goals Recommended by Veterans Representatives Non-federally funded Construction 2.5%; Procurement - 1.7%; Professional Services - 1.7% - and Concessions - as designated by the Aviation Authority A 2.5% construction goal for the $2.1 billion South Terminal, Phase 1 would argue for $52.5 million in VBE participation over the 3-year construction period
Recommended Action It is respectfully requested that the Aviation Authority Board resolve to (1) authorize the establishment of a $5,000,000 VBE goal for Fiscal Year 2018 and Fiscal Year 2019 and (2) authorize the Chief Executive Officer to establish contract-specific goals to reach the goal, with an update to the Aviation Authority Board in January 2019.
