Rafidain Land and Mines 1- Iraq is one of the countries which suffer from mines war remains for many years. IRAQ have the most numbers of mines among countries because of inner and regional wars. These mines and war remains threaten the civilians and re-constructions plans. In spite of developing operations of mines treatment for the past years in many countries, but the operations in Iraq still insufficient, though Iraq is a member in ( Otawa) confection. In spite of the dangerous effect of mines in Iraq after security stability and the start of investment, specially in oil sector, when the operational companies face many dangers and obstacle because of mines and war remains, they face mines explosions daily which causes many death and injury cases to innocent persons. 2- Statistics of mines affairs office in ministry of environment, point out that (1700) square Km. we are polluted with 25 million mines and one million tons of unexplosive bullets and rockets, and the rupted persones by hand and legs are ranged between 80-100 thousands and the rate of 70% -80% of them are lost their legs, 80% of those are caused by mines. Statistics point out that (10232) areas are polluted and signed in Iraq,(600,000) tons of rockets, bullets, and mortar grenades are still unexploded, and scattered all

over iraq. 3-Reports of International organizations point out that 15%-40% of clustered bombs which consist of 200 small bombs are still unexploded, the changed to land mines too.by small mathematic operation, if we suppose that 15% of these clustered bomes changto mines, that means. Iraq has (8,250,000) million land mines or (1,650,000,000) small land mines by assumption that each clustered bombe contanes 200 small bombs. Iraq experts estimated that (25) million mines are still in the land of Iraq, statistics point out that. This number from a quarter of all the unexploded mines all over the world. The number of the clustered bombs which thrown on iraq, according to the declaration of the ministry of environment, on (2.8.2010), are 55 millions clustered bombs, by average of two bombs for each Iraqi citizen lives in Iraq, This statistics for the period 1991-2003 so you can imaging the number if we account of the bombs thrown on Iraq after 2003. 4- Land mines simply, explodes by persons or by vehicle mine contains explosive- material in a plastic, wooden or metal cover, it is supplied by ignition means. Mines classified into two types, which are anti- tanks and anti persons mines. There are mines anti-light vehicles, anti - persons are of four types, which are, explosion pressure, fragments, Jumping and monitored fragmented mines all these mines operated by pulling or release of pushing and by other

means. 5-The explosives of war remains are unexploded munitions or exploded munitions left, or un exploded munitions like bombs, canon missiles, mortar and hand grenades, which were used and unexploded as designed by crashed in the ground or any surface. 6- Finally. we would like to point out that the danger of mines and war remains are exceeded operations of killing and causing disability of thousands of persons every year. as well the social, economic, and environment al effect on long range. So the lost of agriculture lands, reaching water resources, and handicapped re- construction operations and development and postponing developing destroyed industrial projects, which are the most critical dangers which effect to develop society, specially the rural areas and oil- production areas which many decrease the ability of the country to produce oil, and decrease. The ability of the country to re- build normal life, this will lead to the importance of the international organizations, the local organizations and companies which concern

This kind of operation cold be performed by military operations could be performed by military units according to international standards the humanitarian one is different by long scale. This kind aims to clean land to enable civilians to have their routine activities without facing the danger of mines war- remains and the unexploded bombs. that means to remove all mines, war remains and all the unexploded bombs from areas where people live and have activities, to secure them in the cleansing areas when mines are removed that mean to declare safe areas without any doubt and can be used by people without fear.aim of humanitarian mine
