On Friday February 23, our 54 th annual Dinner Dance was held at Leonard s of Great Neck. SBA Vice President Bob Ganley was honored as our 2007 Irishman of the Year. A capacity crowd was on their feet to congratulate Bob for this well deserved honor. I wish to thank everyone who supported this event whether by attending or placing an ad in the Scholarship Journal. It is the support of these events that allows our scholarship program to continue to be so successful. Once again, on Saint Patrick s Day I had the distinct honor and privilege to lead the Emerald Society up the avenue. Upon completion of the parade, it was onto Pier 92 for the post parade festivities. Even a mid March blizzard could not stop the Emeralds from coming out and showing their Irish pride. Thank You, to everyone who pitched in and made the day one to remember. In April, at the monthly meeting four retirees, Brendan Dolan, Mary Beth Colby, Kathleen Mugan Coletti, and Ken Walsh were honored for their long-term dedication and commitment to the Emerald Society. Congratulation on your retirements and thank you for all you have done for the Society. The Emerald Society traveled to Saint Robert Bellarmine s Parish in Bayside Queens for the May meeting. Our Host and Chaplain, Monsignor Geraghty rolled out the red carpet to welcome the Emerald Society. The hall was spacious and parking was plentiful and a crowd to match was on hand. The primary focus of the meeting was to present the scholarship winners with their awards. The night was truly a family event with lots of proud parents looking on. Mr. James Massaro of the New York Law Enforcement Foundation was on hand to present the NYLEF sponsored scholarships. I want to congratulate all of the Scholarship winners and wish you well in your new high schools. The third annual summer get a way is fast approaching and will be held on July 12-16. This year we will be returning to the Fallsview Hotel, look for details within this newsletter. On July 9 th the Emerald Society will going to Coney Ireland to watch the Brooklyn Cyclones take on the Jamestown Jammers. This is Irish night at Keyspan Park will include Step Dancers and Bagpipes as part of the nights entertainment. The annual trip to Ireland and Scotland is now sold out again. What was once a once in a lifetime trip has fast become an annual event for many families. Charter member Donald Tierney will be along for his ninth time. There are still many upcoming Emerald events including; the annual Yankee game, West Point Army football, and the one day golf outing at South Shore Country Club. Check the web page for updated information on future Emerald Society events. Have a wonderful summer. John Gerrity
