The Southeast Courtice Secondary Plan process was launched at a Drop in session at the South Courtice Arena on June 26, 2018. The 60+ residents, business owners, agencies and developers that attended the session were quite interested in the design process that will create the framework for future development of this area. This session reminded the attendees that this Secondary Plan process will create a Sustainable Community in southeast Courtice. A Sustainable Community: Protects natural systems; Reduces energy consumption; Manages storm water, waste & pollutants; Promotes Healthy Living; Includes a mixture of land uses in a compact, walkable form; and, Much, much, more!! Orono Economic Development Strategy An Economic Development Strategy is being prepared to provide guidance and support to the Orono Community. The Economic Development Strategy for Orono will implement Council Policies from the Municipality of Clarington s Official Plan. The strategy will support the needs of Orono s urban residents and surrounding rural population, to help create a complete and sustainable community by promoting Orono s businesses and downtown; increasing the housing options; and promoting the development and redevelopment of Orono s employment lands. The project is coordinated by a Steering Committee representing the local business community, residents, municipal and regional staff, and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The Steering Committee is chaired by Melissa Margaret, owner of M2Perspectives located in downtown Orono; Melissa is also the president of the Orono Business Improvement Area (BIA). We are at the public engagement phase, identifying issues and opportunities for economic development. The project has had a successful month of public consultation. The project team, comprised of the consultants and the steering committee, engaged the community through: Two workshops Over 21 key stakeholders attended Interviews Over 10 key stakeholders were interviewed Survey 383 surveys were completed Online discussion forum 26 submitted posts Facebook comments 9 submitted comments Picture of the workshop held for the Orono BIA and Collective Clarington Planning Services E-Update Page 5

The Steering Committee will be hosting another workshop for the Youth in Orono, on July 24. The public input gathered through these events, surveys and social media will be a cornerstone in the development of the Strategy. Later in the fall, we will be seeking public input on draft recommendations. Notice for the event will be posted in the newspaper, project website, and Facebook. Information on the project can be found online at: www.engageclarington.net/orono If you have any questions or would like to share your ideas, please contact Tanjot Bal or Carlos Salazar of Community Planning and Design Branch of the Clarington Planning Services Department at 905-623-3379 or by email OronoEDS@clarington.net. Fee Increases and Changes to Pre-Consultation Meetings Clarington s Planning Services fees have increased for planning applications and other services. The department s fees increase annually on July 1 st. Clarington s Pre-consultation meeting requirements have changed. As of July 1, 2018 there is a new Pre-consultation Request Form and fee. The Pre-consultation Request Form is fillable and can be found on Clarington s website at the link below. There is also a $200 fee required with the request form in order to schedule a meeting. https://www.clarington.net/en/do-business/pre-consultation.asp The request form and fee have been implemented to encourage more detailed proposals. This will assist staff and agencies in providing better comments and result in more applications, fewer revisions being required once applications have been submitted and fewer repeat meetings. If the pre-consultation meeting results in an application, the $200 will be applied to application fees. Clarington Planning Services E-Update Page 6
