COURSE 2013 GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Blank application forms will be issued to eligible candidates from 3 June to 13 June 2013 from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm (with a brief lunch recess). 2. Blank application forms and sample questions can also be downloaded from the college website www.vidyamandira.ac.in 3. Those who will purchase the blank application forms from the college office will have to pay Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only) for each subject. 4. Those who will download application forms from the college website will have to pay Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only) for each subject during the submission of the downloaded forms at the counters. 5. Only regular candidates who have passed the higher secondary/equivalent examination in 2013 or 2012 will be eligible to apply. 6. The application form must be deposited at Vidyamandira Office. 7. Last date for submission of completed application form: 13 June 2013. Students must bring the Admit Card-cum-Receipt for the Written Test and interview. The admit card-cum-receipt no. should be used as reference no. for any correspondence regarding admission procedure. 8. Please note that if any candidate fails to fulfill the eligibility criteria as mentioned in our admission notice, the form even after submission will automatically stand cancelled. The college authority will not be responsible for any such cancellation. NOTE: Aggregate marks will be calculated as follows: c. West Bengal Higher Secondary candidates 2013/2012-- as in marksheet d. Other Boards (2013 or 2012): Top Four subjects excluding the compulsory Environmental Studies/ Education. Total marks (theoretical + practical) for lab-based subjects would be taken into account for the subject marks.

III. DETAILS OF ADMISSION TEST: PHYSICS HONS: a) A short list of maximum 300 students will be prepared out of all students applying for Honours. This will be prepared on this basis: 25 (H.S Physics) + 25 (H.S. Mathematics) + 50 (Aggregate) =100. b) Only these students will appear for a written examination. c) Full marks for the written test : 50 (2 hours) d) There will be 25 questions covering the whole of H.S [XI & XII] Course, and majority of these will be problem-oriented. Appreciable number of questions will be set from XI syllabus also. Each question will carry 2 marks. e) The final selection of 100-120 students will be done out of the marks secured by the student in the written test. An interview / counseling will be conducted for these students. f) Charges to be submitted at the time of admission: Rs.8300/- [College & Hostel] g) Total seats in the subject = 16 (approximately) 2) CHEMISTRY HONS: a) A short list of 300 students will be prepared out of all students applying for Honours. This will be based on: 50 (Aggregate)+ 50 (HS Chemistry)=100 These students will be eligible to sit in the written test. b) Full marks for the written test : 50 (2 hours) c) There shall be 50 MCQ type questions of 1 mark each covering the syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards. There will be no negative marking. d) Candidates have to select the correct choice by black/ blue pen only in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) to be provided during the written test. Marking should be dark and should completely fill one blank box against the corresponding question number. Incomplete filling or multiple filling of boxes will reject the answer to that question. Once an answer is marked in OMR, there is no scope to alter the choice. Doing rough work or using erasers, blades, whiteners etc on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is strictly prohibited. e) A merit list of 100-120 students will be prepared on this basis: 50 (admission test) + 25 (from aggregate) + 25 (from H.S. Chemistry marks) = 100. f) The final selection will be done after adding the viva voce marks out of 10. g) Admission charges to be submitted at the time of admission : Rs.8900/- [College & Hostel] h) Total seats in the subject = 26 (approximately)
3) MATHEMATICS HONS: a) A short list of 300-320 students will be prepared out of all students applying for Honours. This will be prepared on this basis: 50 (Aggregate) + 50 (H.S. Mathematics) =100. b) These students will be eligible to sit in the written test. c) Full marks for the written test : 50 (2 hours) d) There shall be 25 MCQ type questions covering the syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards, each carrying 2 marks. For each wrong answer, -1 will be awarded. e) Candidates have to select the correct choice by black/ blue pen only in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) to be provided during the written test. Marking should be dark and should completely fill one blank box against the corresponding question number. Incomplete filling or multiple filling of boxes will reject the answer to that question. Once an answer is marked in OMR, there is no scope to alter the choice. 4) MICROBIOLOGY HONS: a) Full marks for the written test: 50 (1 hour) b) There shall be two types of questions: (a) 40 MCQ each of 1 mark and (b) 5 MCQ each of 2 marks. These questions will cover the entire syllabus taught in class XI and some portions of class XII as mentioned herewith: Virus, Bacteria, Photosynthesis, Growth, Blood & Immunology, Digestion & Metabolism. c) Negative Marking- Type (a) at the rate of 1/3 for each wrong answer. Type (b) at the rate of 2/3 for each wrong answer. d) Candidates have to select the correct choice by black/ blue pen only in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) to be provided during the written test. Marking should be dark and should completely fill one blank box against the corresponding question number. Incomplete filling or multiple filling of boxes will reject the answer to that question. Once an answer is marked in OMR, there is no scope to alter the choice. Doing rough work or using erasers, blades, whiteners etc on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is strictly prohibited. e) A preliminary merit list will be prepared on this basis: 50 (admission test) + 20 (reduced from H.S. Chemistry marks) + 20 (reduced from H.S. Biology) = 90. f) The final selection will be done after adding the viva voce marks out of 10. Admission charges to be submitted at the time of admission: Rs.9500/- [College & Hostel] g) Total seats in the subject = 15 (approximately) 5) COMPUTER SCIENCE HONS: a) Full marks of the written test : 60 (1.5 hours) b) There shall be 30 MCQ questions of 2 marks each, covering Mathematics syllabus taught up to XII standard. Each wrong answer will result in (-1). Calculator is not allowed. Rough work should be done in the limited space provided. c) Candidates have to select the correct choice by black/ blue pen only in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) to be provided during the written test. Marking should be dark and should completely fill one blank box against the corresponding question number. Incomplete filling or multiple filling of boxes will reject the answer to that question. Once an answer is marked in OMR, there is no scope to alter the choice. Doing rough work or using erasers, blades, whiteners etc on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is strictly prohibited. d) There will be an interview of the candidates preliminarily selected only on the basis of the written test.
e) The final selection will be done only on the basis of the marks secured in the viva voce. f) Admission charges to be submitted at the time of admission: Rs.9500/- [College & Hostel] g) Total seats in the subject = 14 (approximately) 6) INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY HONS: a) Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour) b) There shall be 25 MCQ type questions each carrying 2 marks covering Chemistry syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards. c) Candidates have to select the correct choice by black/ blue pen only in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) to be provided during the written test. Marking should be dark and should completely fill one blank box against the corresponding question number. Incomplete filling or multiple filling of boxes will reject the answer to that question. Once an answer is marked in OMR, there is no scope to alter the choice. Doing rough work or using erasers, blades, whiteners etc on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is strictly prohibited. d) A preliminary merit list will be prepared on this basis: 50 (admission test) + 25 (reduced from H.S. Chemistry) = 75 e) The final selection will be done after taking into consideration the viva voce performance. Marks in Viva voce: 25. f) Admission charges to be submitted at the time of admission: Rs.9700/- [College & Hostel] g) Total seats in the subject = 16 (approximately) 7) ECONOMICS HONS: a) Full marks for the written test : 50 (2 hours) b) Candidates will be tested in [Higher Secondary] Mathematics (30) and English (essay writing) (20) = 50 marks. c) A preliminary merit list will be prepared on this basis: 50 (admission test) + 50 (reduced from H.S. aggregate) = 100 d) The final selection will be done after taking into consideration the viva voce performance. Marks for viva voce: 25. e) Admission charges to be submitted at the time of admission: Rs.7700/- [College & Hostel] f) Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately) N.B.: The Mathematics General Course to be studied by the Economics Honours students is designed to meet the requirements of the honours course.
IV. SPECIAL NORMS FOR CERTAIN CATEGORIES: (TO OBTAIN APPLICATION FORMS ONLY) (i) The required qualifying marks for SC or ST are 10% less than that for General Candidates. (ii) Competent authorities to issue Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe Certificate for admission to Colleges: (i) Additional District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, Executive Magistrate, Block Development Officer within their respective jurisdiction in case of candidates claiming to be SC/ST and ordinarily residing within such jurisdiction ; (ii) Member of Parliament, Member of State Legislature, Member of Zilla Parishad, Councillor of Municipal Corporation, Commissioner of Municipality within their respective jurisdiction in case of candidates claiming to be SC/ST and ordinarily residing within such jurisdiction. (Vide Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal, Circular No. 2143-BCW / MR-154/03(1) Dated 23rd June 2004). (iii) For sons/(own) brothers of Vidyamandira ex-students/staff members : relaxation of 2% marks in aggregate and 5 marks in the subject concerned. (FOR FINAL SELECTION) o The following reservations will hold for the final selection: 22 % (SC), 6 % (ST), 3 % (PH--physically handicapped) o If any other announcement is made by the Government in respect of the reservation, the college will take care of that. V. ARRIVAL AT THE HOSTEL, START OF CLASSES ETC: (a) All the admitted students should report at the hostel on 7 July 2013, Sunday, between 1 pm and 5 pm. (b) Classes for students newly admitted to the 1st year degree course will begin on 8 July 2013 from 10.00 am.
