nov 2016 vol 24 issue 10 Est. 1888 A monthly publication of the 12th Annual Christmas Lighted Parade Plans are well Underway for Kewanee s 12th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, Sunday, December 3rd at 5:00 p.m.. We Would like to invite you to be a part of this great evening of fun. The Lighted Parade will be held in conjunction with the Lighting of Windmont Park. The Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking entrants in the parade. This could be your business, church, organization or school. We encourage you to go all out decorating a float and making this a great success. (If you need advice on how to light your float or vehicle call us for some suggestions.) Santa will also be making an official visit to Kewanee in the parade. The parade will begin in the Tenney Bowl parking lot and proceed to McClure St. and disband at Windmont Park to kick off the lighting ceremony. Also, this year will mark the beginning of a new Holiday tradition. The Kewanee Park District and the have teamed up to create a Holiday Drive through Northeast Park. During the Windmont Park celebration the lights at Northeast will be turned on and everyone can visit and drive through after saying hello to Santa. November Dates After Hours Business After Hours The Chamber thanks The State Bank of Toulon for hosting last month s After Hours. More than 100 people were in attendance on a gorgeous fall evening. Winner of the shed donated by Greiner Buildings is Hadyn Motley. Next Tuesday, Nov 7, at 5pm, OSF St Luke s Medical Center will be hosting a Business After Hours. Then, on Dec 14, Courtyard Village will host a holiday themed BAH. We would like to say thank you to all our hosts in 2017 and to everyone who attended this year. Little Miss Snowflake & Little Mr. Jack Frost The Chamber of Commerce is looking for entrants for the Little Miss Snowflake & Little Mr. Jack Frost titles. It is open to Boys & Girls age 3-7 who live or go to school in Henry, Bureau and Stark counties. Entries must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 17th, 2017. All entries must be sent or dropped off at the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce office, 113 E. 2nd St. Kewanee IL 61443. Voting will begin the week of November 20th with all voting taking place at the Office, 113 E. 2nd St. and will end Friday, December 2nd at 3:00pm. Winners will be announced Saturday, December 2nd in conjunction with the Kewanee Elks Club Lunch with Santa event, and will ride in the Annual Lighted Parade on December 3rd. Winners will receive a $25.00 Chamber gift certificate, mementos, as well as numerous other gifts. All participants will receive a Holiday Gift bag of goodies. Proceeds from the Lil Miss Snowflake and Mr. Jack Frost event go towards the Kewanee Christmas decoration lighting fund. SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY NOV 25 SHOP LOCAL. SHOP SMALL. Old Glory It s flown high above Downtown Kewanee for another year. After the observance of Veterans Day, weather depending, it will be taken down, repaired and stored until Spring. They are also looking for C-9 bulbs and strings. If you have any you are willing to part with, please take them to the park beginning next week. Little Cabin Update On Oct 14, the Little Cabin had its formal dedication. Due to inclement weather, festivities were moved to Wethersfield School cafeteria. Over 100 folks were in attendance to eat some homemade stew and hear about the history and happenings of the cabin and Little family. Weather permitting, there will be an Open Cabin on Sat., Nov 4 from 11am - 2pm. Kewanee Preservation Society thanks everyone involved with the restoration and those that attended the dedication.
