The scholarship is sponsored in memory of Thomas J. Landers and Charles H. Jackson for years of service to law enforcement. This fund is a project of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association in recognition of its responsibilities and dedication in fostering the profession of law enforcement as a rewarding and beneficial career to the youth our state. This year we will be offering three $500 scholarships for any two or four post High School Law Enforcement Education Programs. One of the scholarships shall be awarded to the son or daughter of a member of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association. The Maine Chiefs of Police Memorial Scholarship under the auspices of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association awards three (3) Five Hundred Dollars $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to enter the law enforcement profession. All entries must be submitted by April 15, 2018 and awarded by the end of May. All entries must be submitted to the Maine Chiefs of Police Association, PO Box 2431, South Portland, Maine 04116. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO PROMOTE THE IDEAS AND CONCEPT TO THE YOUTH OF OUR STATE FOR LAW ENFORCEMNT AS A PROFESSIONAL CAREER BY AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING GRADUATING SENIORS. THE MAINE CHIEFS OF POLICE PROFESSION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AS REWARDING AND BENEFICIAL CAREER TO THE YOUTH OF OUR STATE. The interest of the applicant and time of the committee are served best by orderly concise and chronological presentation of paper of approximately 8 ½ x 11 ½ binder or cover. Spring, clear or bulky covers are least desirable. In addition to the Memorandum of Required Facts, which should be first in the cover, we suggest as essential details, the following preferably in order: 1. A statement of not more than 300 words prepared by the applicant indicating what area of law enforcement you wish to pursue as a career and why you have made that choice. 2. The applicant should include their proof of education from ninth grade to the date of application. Applicant should provide evidence such as school certificates signed by proper authority showing the courses taken, the grades received in numbers only and not by credits or letter codes. 3. Three letters of recommendation covering character, personality and scholastic ability of the applicant. One from high school administrator, another from a member of the teaching staff and an employer if applicable. Each letter must be confined to only one side of an 8 ½ x 11 page. 4. All areas of the application must be completed. Maine Chiefs of Police Memorial Scholarship Award is for one year only. Upon receipt of notice of satisfactory completion of the first semester from proper official, the $500.00 award will be forwarded to College, University or place of higher education to establish credit for the student.
