These college students from the Mount Carmel-Kulpmont area, representing four Catholic churches, performed service for their parishes and the community in a program held over Christmas holiday break at the Mother Maria Kaupas Center. Catholic Campus Ministers from throughout the Diocese of Harrisburg met at the Mother Maria Kaupas Center in September 2015. Later in the day, they visited the Saint Pauline Visintainer Center in Kulpmont. Father Martin Moran, left, welcomes Bennett Smith, center, and Michael Metzger, seminarians who worked during previous summers at Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel, to the Center in January 2016. The seminarians joined local college students in outreach to senior citizens. 5

Bucknell students visited a working strip mine operation near Trevorton March 30 where Vince Guarna, left, mine owner, conducted them on a tour. Students are enrolled in an interdisciplinary course called Susquehanna Country which is taught by Alf Siewers, a professor of English, and Katie Faull, a professor of German and humanities who is director of the Program in Comparative Humanities. The tour was arranged by the Mother Maria Kaupas Center. PARTNERS Bucknell University Mt. Carmel Area School District Mount Carmel Borough The Bucknell University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a drive in which athletes at Bucknell donated canned food items for needy or homebound people to be distributed through the Mother Maria Kaupas Center in Mount Carmel. From left, Kelly Pastuszek and Terrie Grieb, of Bucknell s athletics department, and Matt Wyman, a senior on Bucknell s track team who is SAAC president, delivered 13 boxes of assorted canned food items to the Center. Mount Carmel Public Library Mount Carmel Ministerium Sixty-two members of the Bucknell University swim team helped local children improve their swimming techniques at a free clinic Jan. 13, 2016, at the Mount Carmel Area High School pool sponsored by the Kaupas Center/ Bucknell Field Station. 9
