Gypsy Carns is a gifted singer, songwriter, and musician who is a key component in our early worship Praise Band. This Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, you are invited to a FREE CONCERT in which Gypsy will feature music from his newest CD. Gypsy recently received rave reviews from a European music critic for his blues and rock-oriented gospel music. Invite a friend and join us this Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m.

RENEWAL TIME FOR "O FOR A THOUSAND" AT HAND Last year at this time, Bishop Hope Morgan Ward challenged individuals and churches across Mississippi to remember retired pastors who have served our churches faithfully. Due to the recession of 2008-2009, the Mississippi Annual Conference has experienced a shortfall in our pension funding for these retired pastors. Bishop Ward challenged one thousand churches, groups, and individuals to contribute $1000 a year through 2020 to help cover this obligation. Central responded in 2010 with $3000! Now is the time to renew our commitment for 2011. If you or your Sunday School class gave last year, I encourage you to give now. If you did not give last year but would like to contribute this year, make your gift payable to Central UMC and memo your gift: Retired Clergy Pension Fund. NEW SERMON SERIES BEGINS SUNDAY This Sunday we will begin a 4-part sermon series entitled "SOLID LIVING IN SHAKY TIMES." For the next 4 weeks we'll talk about the influence of culture, the role of money in our lives, and the Bible's teaching about stewardship. Each week during the series we'll also feature a video "witness" from a Central member who has discovered the joy of generous giving. Join us for this important 4-week series during October. MISSIONS & EVANGELISM "In using all means, seek God alone. In and through every outward thing, look only to the power of His Spirit, and the merits of His Son. Beware you do not get stuck in the work itself; if you do, it is all lost labor. Nothing short of God can satisfy your soul. Therefore, fix on Him in all, through all, and above all...remember also to use all means-as ordained, not for their own sake..." YOUTH MINISTRY It is not too late to get a spot on the bus to Fright Fest at Six Flags over Ga. The deadline has passed, so the $90 needs to be paid upon sign-up. Seating at this point is limited so seats are on a first come basis. We will leave from the church parking lot at 7:00 am and will return in the wee early hours on Sunday, October 30 th. We will meet on the 23 rd of October at 7:15 p.m. to discuss the final details. TRUNK OR TREAT Although this is technically a children's department event, we need tons of students to make it work. We will have a Central nation site that needs to be manned, where candy will be given out, the youth band will be playing, and there will be a costume contest with unbelievable prizes for those students who dress up. NON-SANCTIONED YOUTH EVENT If you see the symbol shown here attached to an event or in publicity materials, it is there to indicate that this is a good, Christian event, but due to calendar conflicts or some other issue we will not be attending as a youth group. Hopefully, this will allow us all to be more aware of the Christian concerts and events that take place in our area. Gypsy Carns live and in concert in Central's fellowship hall at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 9 th. Gypsy has spent several months working with our students in their praise band as well as working on a new album of his own material. Please come out for this event and support Gypsy, his music, and most of all his heart for ministry. The concert should be over by 6 p.m. at which point students in grades 6 th through 12 th will move upstairs for dinner and Bible Study. House of God will be over around 7:15 p.m. Sun, October 16, 2011 6:00 PM Meridian Community College Sun, October 16, 2011 6:00 PM Meridian Community College Jason Cook, former Ole Miss full back and current sold out Man of God, will be speaking to all attendees at the Lauderdale County Fields of Faithhosted by Meridian Community College on Sunday evening October 16th, 2011.
