Gentlemen: I know that the last 6% in Membership is the hardest but lets keep working hard and push to get 100% for Vermont by State Convention to keep building our bridges into the future. It would be great to go to National Convention at 100% in Membership. Senior Vice / Membership Chairman Henry Cleveland has again offered his "Prime Rib party" for a Squadron who was picked. The winner this year was Squadron #29 of Readsboro. Congratulations guys!!!! June 25th-27th is Convention in Ludlow. Information has already gone out but if you did not receive any, please contact Department Headquarters. I understand that rooms are filling up fast, so make your reservations early. Please don't forget to make your banquet reservations also!!!! Gentlemen, the American Legion still needs our help with their Commander's Project for the year which is to help send Vermont kids to Norwich University for a Future Leaders Camp. So lets get behind this project and help them out as only the Sons do. We are approaching that time of year for Installations. Please contact your District Commander to make the arrangements or if he can't do it, arrangements made to get you properly installed in a timely way. This is also helps to have the directory out quicker and more accurately for the next year. Year End Reports will be coming out either with this newsletter or very shortly afterwards. Please fill these out as soon as possible and return them by June 7th to our Adjutant Don Tetreault so he can compile the figures for Convention and it is also how the Awards presented at Convention are decided. Speaking of Awards, do not forget to submit your nomination for "Member of the Year" to John Waite. Also remind your Auxiliary to nominate someone for the "Nancy Mossey Tetreault Award" and submit it to John. Both of these awards need to be postmarked by June 7th and in to PDC John Waite 1034 Main Street Walpole, NH 03608 or by e-mail to: waite.john@comcast.net. This will be my last letter as your Commander. I would like to thank everyone for their help these past 2 years especially the great team of Officers and Chairman I had without your support we couldn't have accomplished what we have. Those that went over and above "the call of Duty" so to speak were: Henry Cleveland, John Waite, Bruce Gideos, Don Tetreault, Gene Buckley, my mother Nancy and my wife Rebecca. Thank you also to American Legion Commander Rick gray for the last 2 years and American Legion Auxiliary Presidents Ann Berrio and Priscilla Kleespies during their years. I think we worked really well as the American Legion Family. A very special thank you to the members of my home Squadron #5 for their backing, love, and support. Lets all get behind our Historian Danny Buckley and wish him good luck when he submits the Detachment's Historian book. He has had 3 first place National winners in a row and lets hope for a 4th. I would like to wish Henry Cleveland and his Officers and Chairman a wonderful year. I know you will support them as you have me and I know Henry will give it his all. I will be available if you need my help in any way. Eric T. Buckley, Commander Detachment of Vermont

Dear Fellow S..A.L. Members, I hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend, whether it was spent with Family, friends, or you had a chance to march in a Parade to honor our Veterans. We can never thank them enough for the sacrifices made to keep our Country free. In reality, because of the Veterans and their service, much of the World has benefitted, even if they do not realize it. My wife and I watched the National Memorial Day Concert and Celebration from Washington, D.C. on Sunday night. This year the emphasis was on the Disabled Veterans from all wars, and there were some remarkable stories of determination, faith and family support as we heard how some Veterans overcame their horrendous injuries and are now living productive lives. In one case, the Veteran and his family have started a service to help other Vets cope with their injuries and are giving them hope and encouragement as well as physical help on their way to recovery. It was really touching and reminded us that war doesn t end when someone returns home there are still many battles to fight and that s where the American Legion Family has such a big part in aiding the Veterans and their families as they go through whatever they now face. What a privilege to be part of that! I would like to thank the Detachment of Vermont S.A.L. Squadrons as well as my home Squadron Barre # 10 for the support and great reception you all gave me as your Northern Area Commander these past two years. Everywhere I have visited I have felt welcomed and it certainly has been a privilege and honor to have been able to help in whatever capacity I was able. We have a really great group of people in our S.A.L. Detachment and as I have seen since being a District Commander four years ago, the dedication, selflessness, and honest service to Veterans and their families is what characterizes the Detachment of Vermont. Please keep this focus as we enter the 2015-2016 year it is why we are here. If any Squadron still needs someone for Installation, please let us know immediately and we will work to arrange to get someone there. Congratulations to all who taken an office this year. We know you will do well and we all wish you a great year ahead. Year End Reports are due by June 7 please send to salvermont@gmail.com or mail to Don Tetreault, Detachment Adjutant. Congratulations to SQ. 29, Readsboro for wining SR. Vice Henry s Prime Rib challenge you have a treat in store! It is not too late to get your 100% Membership if you need help let us know we have until Convention at the end of June. Hope to see many of you there we are looking forward to a good time and a great kickoff for the 2015-2016 Year. Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to the Sons of the American Legion it is much appreciated. For the Veterans, Steve England N. Area Commander Detachment of VT S.A.L.

District 1 Commander June 2 newsletter Gentlemen, Nearly all of the Squadrons in District 1 have been visited this April. It is evident that most of our Squadrons are successful because of a few dedicated leaders. Attendance at monthly meetings consists of a handful of officers who are working hard to keep their Squadrons going. It is commendable to see the tenacity of these few and you should realize how important your work is. I would like you to know that we at the Detachment, notice and appreciate your dedication. District 1 has achieved 99.10% of our collective membership target goal. Richford # 12, Bristol #19, Middlebury #27, Enosburg Falls #42, Alburg #60, and Colchester #91 have all achieved 100% of their 2015 quotas! Congratulations, that was a tremendous job. Now, we get to do it all again for 2016, starting in June! Installation of newly elected, or re-elected officers has been taking place in District 1 Squadrons. I have installed Squadron #1 Green Mountain, and Colchester #91 officers and will be installing Bristol officers in June. If you have not had your officers installed, I would be happy to make arrangements with you. Please contact me. I hope to see you at the Annual Convention in Ludlow. National is still looking for photos from squadrons showing the work they do each and every day. Information can be found at www.legion.org/sons/files/ snapshotform.pdf. Reports are due to the Detachment Adjutant by the 7th of June so I can compile them for the committee that will be looking at awarding our trophies and plaques. Take a few minutes and get them done, so we can blow our horn a little louder. Convention is coming up this month. The Sons of the American Legion will be meeting at Ludlow Post 36 on the 2nd floor at 9:00 A.M. on June 27th with the Detachment Executive Committee. The regular membership meeting is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. in the same area. That is the 2nd floor of the Ludlow Post 36 rooms. When you come to Convention, registration will be available on Friday and Saturday. Friday from 9:00 to 3:00 P.M. and Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. Registration will be on the mountain at the Base Lodge. Leave your vehicle there and catch a shuttle bus to the Post as there is very little parking at the Post. RE- MEMBER TO REGISTER FOR THE CONVENTION AND THE FEE IS $7.00 PER MEMBER AND THE MON- IES COLLECTED ARE HELPING LUDLOW POST 36 HOST THE 2015 CONVENTION.
