2018 Vecinos de South Pasadena Scholarship Application Vecinos de South Pasadena was established in March 2003 in order to bring together Latinos, friends, and all interested neighbors to form a stronger connection to our city, while maintaining and sharing our rich cultural heritage. Our mission is to enrich the lives of South Pasadena Residents by: -Advancing the education of all children; -Promoting Latino culture, family and community; -Contributing to the public life of South Pasadena. Vecinos will proudly award 3 scholarships ONE $2,000 ONE $1,500 ONE - $500 Scholarship criteria: Be a graduating high school senior for 2018 Attend South Pasadena High School or be a South Pasadena resident Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale Be accepted as a full-time undergraduate college student in fall 2018. This includes students attending art school, other professional school, or community college. Submit a 1,000 word (max), double spaced response addressing one of the following: o What insights have you gained through your experiences in the South Pasadena Community that help define your identity and your aspirations? o Describe your contributions or engagement with the Latino Community. How do you imagine engaging with the Latino community as you enter adulthood and beyond? The scholarship recipients are selected through a blind process based on pre-identified criteria. The applications are anonymized. All applications are read by the scholarship committee and are blindly scored by each scholarship committee member. If awarded a scholarship, you will be asked for your social security number for tax purposes, proof of registration to a post secondary institution, and a picture of yourself to use for public Vecinos de South Pasadena events such as your recognition and fundraising. If awarded the scholarship, you must enroll in college for the Fall term of 2018 or the scholarship will be rescinded. If you are the recipient of a scholarship, Vecinos de South Pasadena reserves the right to publically state your name and image in Vecinos de South Pasadena public events and in print toward the awareness of the scholarship and for fundraising purposes.
