SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION This is a list of community/regional scholarships that that are offered to our seniors. I have arranged them by the month they are typically due. As they become available, these scholarships will be posted on NAVIANCE. To access more information, please log onto NAVIANCE. Click on the COLLEGES tab and then scroll down to SCHOLARSHIPS and MONEY. Click on SCHOLARSHIP LIST. At this point, click on the scholarship of interest. In many cases, you will be directed to a website for the application. In other instances, you may be able to download the application directly from NAVIANCE. Should you have any questions, please contact Teresa Hoffman in the College and Career Center. OCTOBER COCA COLA SCHOLARS ($10,000-$20,000) seniors only; state/national competition; recognizes students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. NOVEMBER PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD ($1,000; $5,000) - grades 9-12; state/national competition; recognizes volunteerism and the positive contributions of young people who make a difference in our community. Those in grades 9-12 are eligible. Grades and test scores are NOT considered in the application. DECEMBER AYSO JEFF RICKEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($2,000) awarded to a college-bound senior who has played soccer in, and given volunteer service to the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Region 10. Applicant must demonstrate an understanding of the importance of good sportsmanship. AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP ($10,000 - $25,000) seniors only; state/national competition; recognizes those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. APPLY EARLY, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted. BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM (Varies) - For high school seniors who are US residents; have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher; plan to enroll for 2015-16 academic year at an accredited two- or fouryear college, university, or vocational-technical school. James W. McLamore WHOPPER Scholarship also available to those with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3; demonstrate active leadership role in community service, athletics, and/or similar co-curricular activity; demonstrate substantial work experience. Only the first 50,000 submitted will be processed. ELKS CLUB MVS FOUNDATION (up to $60,000) seniors only; local/district/state/national competition; applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, community service, and financial need. MILKEN SCHOLARS PROGRAM ($10,000) seniors who are eligible demonstrate academic performance (min. GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale), community service, leadership activities, financial need, and/or triumphs over obstacles. High school counselors must nominate students.

NFIB YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR ($1,000-$10,000) seniors only; national competition; scholarships created to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through starting their own small business. JANUARY CAC EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP ($2500) seniors only; must complete a one page application along with an essay on the "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Financial Credit During Your College Years." ELK S LEGACY AWARD ($4,000) seniors only; any child/grandchild of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2012 is eligible to apply. Candidates who qualify are judged on knowledge, charity, community service and integrity. GATES MILLENNIUM (Varies) seniors only; must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American and a US citizen/legal resident; attained cumulative GPA of 3.3; demonstrated leadership abilities; demonstrate financial need. GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (up to $40,000) for seniors only who demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; demonstrate strong academic performance; demonstrate financial need; be citizens of the United States. ONLY first 25,000 applications accepted. KOREAN SPIRIT AND CULTURE PROMOTION PROJECT ($500) - open to all students in high school; entrants are required to read one of the books published by KSCPP (available online for free at www.kscpp.net) and then write an essay discussing your impression, appreciation, or understanding of the subjects discussed. PVP LIONS CLUB SPEECH CONTEST (up to $20,000) - grades 9-12; local/regional competition; students should prepare a talk approximately 10 minutes in length on the following speech topic: "Water Conservation: How Do We Reduce, Recycle and Reclaim?" Sign-ups are still being taken in the College and Career Center, Room 318. First round of speeches will take place in late January 2015. PVP ROTARY SPEECH CONTEST ($200 - $1,000) - grades 9-12; students will present their speech on February 27 at the Rotary Club Meeting. Speech Topic: Service Above Self, the Rotary Motto. Completed application is due prior to speech. RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES ($1,000 minimum) seniors only; regional competition; scholarship is awarded to those with financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. FEBRUARY ASIAN PACIFIC FUND SCHOLARSHIP (varies) - provides scholarships to more than 70 students; many, but not all, focus on Asian students with financial need. Eligibility requirements vary from program to program. AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP ($2,000) seniors only; regional competition; awards those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. APPLY EARLY, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted.

BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP ($100,000; $25,000/year for 4 years) for seniors who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. CABRILLO CIVIC CLUBS OF CA ($500) -seniors only; must be of Portuguese descent; minimum weighted GPA of 3.5; participated in three extracurricular activities. CA STATE PTA ($500) seniors only; state competition; must be a member of PVHS PTSA in good standing; no minimum GPA; focuses on a student s volunteer service in the school and community. COX CARES (up to $5,000) - seniors only; will enroll in a college within California; minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0; demonstrated commitment to volunteer service; demonstrated financial need. EDISONS SCHOLARS PROGRAM ($40,000) seniors only; students must show potential for a successful college career (average GPA of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale) and have financial need; program supports the study of math, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, computer science or information systems with renewable scholarships at four-year colleges. LA MILITARY CHARITABLE CLUB (varies) - seniors only; must be a child of an active, retired service member or current or retired Dept. of Defense employee; awarded on academic performance, extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership, applicant s character. PV JUNIOR WOMEN S CLUB (varies) - seniors only; awarded primarily on financial need with a secondary emphasis on academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities. SANDPIPERS SCHOLARSHIP (varies) - seniors only; minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0; demonstrate financial need; actively involved in community service; scholarship RENEWABLE for each year in college. MARCH ANDREW SAKURA MEMORIAL ($1,000) - for male seniors only at PVHS; application includes an essay on one of three prompts relating to friendship. CALIFORNIA CREDIT UNION ($1,000) - seniors only; must have min GPA of 3.0, community/school involvement, and financial need. CCSSM ($2,000) - seniors only; must submit essay (min 1,000 words) on the following topic: Choose an experience from your life, and explain how it has influenced your development. Recipients are selected based on their essay, financial need, extracurricular/community involvement, GPA. CHEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ($2,000) - for high school seniors who plan to attend a CA State University or CA Community College as a 1st year student in the Fall 2015; must have a min. unweighted GPA of 3.0 and household income at or below CA State Low Income Level; scholarship is open to ALL majors and there is NO ETHNICITY REQUIREMENT. HARRY BRANDEL (varies) - seniors only; must be a resident of PVE and attending college in the fall 2014 with a major of architecture, landscape, civil engineering, land use planning or the fine arts. ILWU - INTERNATIONAL LONGSHORE and WAREHOUSE UNION ($600) - Three scholarships will be awarded to PVHS students; application includes an essay on labor leader Harry Bridges.

ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION ($2,500) - seniors only; must be of Italian ancestry who is also Roman Catholic; minimum unweighted GPA of 3.2; participation in extracurricular activities; financial need. JACL NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS (varies) - currently offers over 30 awards, every applicant must be an active JACL member at either an Individual or Student Youth Level. JACK BAGDASAR ($250) awarded to a senior who demonstrates the ability and desire to be an elementary school teacher. JAMIE FRANTZ MEMORIAL ($5,000) - seniors only; min GPA of 3.0 unweighted; financial need a major component. KINECTA ($2,000) - seniors only; must be a Kinecta member whose account is in good standing, need to submit essay (min 1,000 words) on the following topic: Choose an experience from your life, and explain how it has influenced your development. Recipients are selected based on their essay, extracurricular/community involvement, GPA/test scores, awards. KOHLS CARES - for ages 6-18; recognizes and rewards young volunteers who help make their communities a better place to live. MARY P. WYATT ($1,000) PVHS seniors only; min 3.0 GPA; demonstrates financial need; actively helps others. NATIONAL CHARITY LEAGUE (varies) - seniors only; awarded based on financial need, academic performance, and extracurricular activities. Scholarship RENEWABLE for each year in college. PVP LION S CLUB ($500 - $1000) seniors only; one scholarship given to a student majoring in the arts; remaining scholarships given to students pursuing other endeavors; min GPA of 3.0, service, leadership, financial need considered. SONS OF ITALY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP ($500 - $5,000) seniors only; must be wholly or partially of Italian Descent; selection based on scholastic record, activities evidencing leadership, financial need, written personal goals statement, essay of Italian Origin, and letters of recommendation. SONS OF ITALY LANGUAGE STUDY GRANT (varies) seniors only; Italian Language Study Grants are available for a one-month complete immersion summer course in Italian language at an Italian College; applicants must be wholly or partially of Italian Descent; selection based on scholastic record, activities evidencing leadership, financial need, written personal goals statement, essay of Italian Origin, and letters of recommendation. SOUTH BAY BUSINESS WOMEN S ASSOCIATION ($2,000) for women who are graduating high school seniors; preferences given to those residing in the South Bay; candidates must be planning to enroll fulltime in college in fall 2015; applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. SOUTH BAY ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC ASSOC ($1,000) - for female seniors only who will be attending a 4 year college or university where sororities are established; must demonstrate academic excellence, demonstrate character, participation in school/community, and financial need. TAIWANESE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND ($2,500) students must be a high school senior, a US citizen AND a direct blood descendant of a Taiwanese citizen; plan to attend a university in Fall 2015; have an unweighted GPA of 3.0; have a household income at or below the Federal/State/County Low Income Level.

TORCHBEARERS FOUNDATION (varies) - seniors only; must be of African-American ancestry; made positive contribution to school/community. WATER IS LIFE (ipads) - grades 3-12; art contest meant to inspire students to learn about water resources while thinking of creative ways to promote water awareness and conservation. APRIL AGNEW BRUSAVICH ($400) recipient should (but not required to) enroll in a California Community College with the intention of transferring to a University of California campus after 2 years. Applications are available in the College and Career Center. ARMENIAN RELIEF SOCIETY ($500) - seniors only; must be of Armenian Descent; academic achievement; active in school and community. CHUCK CHAMBERS/RUSS URBAN ($500) - seniors only; application and essay on service you have done in school or community. CORNERSTONE ALUMNAE ($500) - honors an outstanding high school senior who is also a Cornerstone graduate. JACL GARDENA VALLEY (varies) seniors only; must be of Japanese-American ancestry; min 2.5 GPA; emphasis on Japanese American community involvement and volunteerism. JACL JANICE KOBATA ZOEGER MEMORIAL (varies) - seniors only, must be of Japanese-American ancestry and planning to pursue a degree in any field relating to biological sciences, foreign or ancient language or business. JACL KIICHI EGASHIRA MEMORIAL ($500 - $2,000) - seniors only; must be of Japanese-American ancestry and planning to pursue a degree in physical or biological sciences, engineering or mathematics. KIWANIS CLUB ($500; $1,000) - seniors only; given to students to have shown special heart, academic merit, service and financial need. PVP ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS (varies) for seniors only who attend PVPUSD high schools; students need to attend 2 or 4-year colleges in Fall 2015; have contributed to school and community; demonstrate financial need. PVP COUNCIL OF PTSAs ($1,000) - seniors only; must be a PTSA member and complete an essay of 350 words max to describe In what way has the PTA influenced your life? SEAN HEFFERNAN MEMORIAL ($1,000) graduating senior who shows academic achievement, community service; must include original artwork (includes photography, poem, writing, sculpture, etc.) and an essay on caring. SILVER SPUR ($1,000) - for Silver Spur alums; community service and extracurricular activities considered; short essay.
