Family Birth Place Transforming the Future Our Campaign for Englewood Hospital and Medical Center

Highest Quality Program in the Nation Year after year, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is singled out for national accolades and honors in maternity care. Received the CareChex 2013 Patient Safety Award for Women s Health Top 10% in the Nation. Received the 2013 Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. Recipient of the Healthgrades Maternity Care Excellence Award TM for eight years in a row (2005 2012). Ranked by Healthgrades among the Top 10% in the Nation for Maternity Care for nine years in a row (2004 2012). Healthgrades Five-Star recipient for Maternity Care for 10 years in a row (2003 2012). Achieved Magnet status, the highest recognition for nursing excellence bestowed on only 7% of all U.S. hospitals.

They saved my baby. With two healthy children, Elana Arlin was looking forward to the birth of her third baby. But it was 5:00 a.m., and she knew something was very wrong. She also knew where she needed to go: Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, a recognized leader for the highest quality prenatal, labor and delivery and neonatal care. Elana remembers the day vividly. The doctor decided to induce labor, but I was making little progress. I was tired and discouraged. Every step of the way, the nurses were amazing. They kept on encouraging me, despite us hitting roadblock after roadblock. Suddenly, the alarms went off signaling fetal distress, and the team sprang into action. My doctor came in and said, We have to do an emergency C-section. Then they rushed me into the operating room and delivered our baby. Little Ehava Malka came into the world unaware of the drama that preceded her birth. But her mother will never forget. We love our baby very much. Everybody there was so great and so supportive. They knew exactly what to do. They treat your baby like their own. Elana Arlin

New The Family Birth Place at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center

The Family Birth P WE HAVE SET THE STANDARD for the highest quality prenatal, labor and delivery and neonatal medical care in the nation. The Family Birth Place has earned the highest independent ratings available including a Five-Star rating from Healthgrades every year for a decade. This is why mothers trust us with their health and the birth of their babies. Now our Transforming the Future Capital Campaign is developing the resources necessary to match our world-class medical care with spectacular five-star facilities. Among the Most Recognized Programs in the Nation Every year, the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (EHMC) Family Birth Place wins national accolades and awards. However, the most important praise comes from parents who deliver more than 2,000 children annually at EHMC. They know that our medical team provides the highest level of caring and expertise. As a Level III Perinatal Center, our specialists are leaders in their respective fields, prepared for highrisk and complicated pregnancies and deliveries. Our Board Certified OB/Gyn physicians, maternal fetal

lace of the Future The new Family Birth Place at EHMC will dramatically transform our maternity unit, enhance the childbirth experience for women and their families, improve patient and physician satisfaction and raise our patient care to an even higher level. Faith J. Frieden, M.D. Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists, neonatologists and anesthesiologists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The clinical team also features a highly experienced corps of Magnet award-winning nurses and clinicians who provide a family-centered approach to birthing and bonding. Creating a New Standard of Excellence Simply stated, EHMC s sixty-yearold Family Birth Place is currently housed in outdated facilities: Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDRs) are cramped by today s standards, which affects the number of family members who can comfortably be present; postpartum rooms where mothers recover and then bond with their new babies and families are not private; and operating rooms lack the physical space needed to accommodate updated technology. These constraints are becoming more pronounced as the demand for services both clinical and concierge grows in our communities.

A State-of-the-Art Setting for the Ultimate Bonding Experience EHMC s national reputation for expert, humanistic care attracts families to our Family Birth Place each day. This transformation of our facilities will ensure that these families enjoy an exceptional bonding experience as they witness life s ultimate gift: the arrival of a newborn baby. The New Family Birth Place will include: Eight new Labor and Delivery Rooms, each 75% larger than the existing rooms, equipped with infant resuscitation stations and private bathrooms featuring a shower or tub. A Triage Area, where women can be examined to determine if Hospital admittance is required, thus allowing the LDRs to be reserved for mothers in active labor. A Step-Down Unit for antepartum and postpartum monitoring of high-risk cases. Two Operating Rooms equipped with the latest technology. 24 spacious, private and beautifully appointed Postpartum Rooms, each with a private bathroom, to welcome all family members to the bonding experience. An enhanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with adjacent Family Rooms. A newly created Lactation Center. Dedicated office space for staff and physician support services. A modern new nursery to securely house our newborns, giving mom some extra rest and recovery time if needed. The estimated cost of updating and enhancing the Family Birth Place is $15.9 million. Of that total, $13.4 million will fund construction, while $2.5 million will be allocated for equipment. Your support will not only increase the number of families we serve, but also assure that the newest and youngest members of our community will continue to benefit from the best of care, close to home. When completed, the new quarters will accommodate the growing demands of our community in a beautiful, state-of-the-art setting that, like our award-winning clinical care, will be second to none and enable us to fulfill our comprehensive strategic plans for the future of EHMC.
