University of Rochester Sailing Team ALUMNI JAN 2018
Meet the Coach Dear Alumni, Welcome to your annual update from coach Roy! Once again we climbed the ranks of MAISA, placing 5th at the North Qualifier behind Hobart, Cornell, Maritime, and Fordham (which are great competition - three of them made it to National Semifinals and 2 made it to Finals last year). This academic year, we see the torch of President being passed on to Samara Levy. She has shown consistent commitment to the club, a willingness to improve, and will do a great job. For another year our roster has seen continued growth. Though we lose some very committed seniors, our freshmen and sophomore classes have stepped up and brought some truly excellent people. We even had a recruit visit us who will (most likely) be joining our ranks as a freshman next year! I want to thank all sailors, past and present, who made this club a reality. The successes of this club today are only possible from this program being built up year after year. I look forward to watching people grow as sailors, friends, and individuals thanks to all of you. Sincerely, Roy Ingham Head Coach, UR Sailing Club

Letter from the President Dear Alumni, UR Sailing has enjoyed another successful competitive season, thanks to the generosity of our alumni, Rochester Canoe Club members, and friends. I am proud to be able to share all that we have accomplished this year! To start the year off, we hosted our first competitive regatta at Rochester Canoe Club at the end of the Spring semester. We hosted teams from Syracuse University, University of Ottawa, and Hamilton College. Thanks to the hard work by some RCC volunteers and our own executive board, the Rochester Club Open was a great success. Next year, we are looking forward to hosting the regatta again, this time with enough teams to use our full fleet. We started the Fall semester strong as well, bringing in about 10 new members and practicing 2-3 times a week. The hard work paid off, as we finished fifth out of 16 teams at the North Fall Qualifier regatta, UR s best finish in recent memory. We continued to sail well at the Cazenovia Fall Open, where some of our newer members came in third place overall. We rounded up the competitive season with the David Lee Arnoff Trophy at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Luce Regatta at Cornell University. I am proud to announce that we ended the year ranked 27th in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association, up two places from our ranking last year! Coach Roy Ingham has continued to be a massive asset UR sailing, providing coaching at all our practices and regatta. We have showed steady improvement since we brought Roy on a few years ago, and we are looking forward to the team s continued development under his training. Next spring, once the ice melts, we are looking forward to attending the Grant regatta at Hobart and William Smith Colleges before we host our own event the weekend of April 28th. If you are in the area, please feel free to drop by and see how the team has progressed over the last few years. To all alumni, RCC members, current members, and friends of the team, thank you for our continued support of UR sailing. It has been an honor to lead this team in 2017, and I am confident that we will continue to succeed in years to come! Sincerely, James Emery
