Promoting Hong Kong as the Bridgehead for Mainland Enterprises Outward Investment Ventures China s outward foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased by leaps and bounds in recent years. According to the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), China s FDI reached US$145.7 billion in 2015, ranking it as the world s second largest investor economy behind the US. With China s 13 th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) further emphasising the importance of innovation and foreign investments as crucial vessels of growth, the upward trajectory of China s appetite for overseas investment partnership opportunities is expected to continue. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has been championing Hong Kong as the bridgehead for mainland enterprises outbound investment ventures, and for good reasons. Most Chinese investors regard our common law system, free flow of capital and information, as well as our world-class financial and professional services as crucial enablers of successful cross-border investment ventures. In fact, some 60% of China s cumulative stock of outward FDI, which reached US$1,097.9 billion as at the end of 2015, had been directed to, or channelled through, Hong Kong. Our legal and tax infrastructure, expertise in intellectual property protection, strong international

networks, familiarity with Sino-foreign co-operation and world-class services talents all serve to connect the investment needs of mainland enterprises with overseas businesses and projects. Without doubt, Hong Kong s world-class services professionals will continue to play a crucial role in enabling crossborder deals and partnerships for Chinese enterprises. HKTDC is committed to helping Hong Kong services professionals capitalise on opportunities arising from China s increasing outward FDI. Since 2011, we have organised more than 100 activities, including conferences and seminars, business and investment matching sessions, joint outbound investment missions as well as roadshows to various mainland business hubs:

HKTDC is pleased to invite you and other members of your organisation to register to receive enquiries from Chinese investors looking for overseas opportunities, worldwide project owners seeking capital, as well as updates on HKTDC s promotion programme for connecting Hong Kong service providers with mainland enterprises. Enclosed please find the registration form for your perusal. Should you have any enquiry, please feel free to contact myself or Ms Kathy Chow at (852) 2584 4445 or kathy.py.chow@hktdc.org. Yours sincerely, Christopher Lai Manager, Service Promotion Hong Kong Trade Development Council Encl.
