Awards Information Founded in 1933, the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association serves the University by establishing lifelong relationships with alumni and friends which results in alumni participating in and contributing to the continued growth of the University. The first Alumni Association Awards Ceremony was held in 1969. The Alumni Association Alumnus/Alumna of the Year, the highest award given by the Alumni Association, is given biennially to an alumnus/na who has rendered great service to Georgia Southern University. In addition, an Alumnus/Alumna of the Year award is presented by each College and the Department of Biology. Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award This is the highest award given by the Alumni Association. It is given to an alumnus/na who has rendered great service to Georgia 2. Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Professional Achievement Award This award is given by the Alumni Association to an alumnus/na who has excelled professionally and has a record of service to Georgia Southern University. This award is not necessarily presented each year. 2. A candidate must be a graduate of Georgia Southern University (or its earlier equivalent) and is eligible for consideration no earlier than ten years after their graduation date. 3. Eagle Lifetime Achievement Award This award is given to recognize a Georgia Southern alumnus/na who has made significant contributions to Georgia Southern Athletics. This award has been presented to a few selected people and is not necessarily presented each year. 2. The candidate can be a graduate or friend of the University. If he/she is a graduate, they are eligible for consideration no earlier than ten years after their graduation date. 4. Friend of Georgia Southern Award This award is given to recognize the outstanding contributions of an individual who has shown dedication and service to the university and/or the Alumni Association through volunteerism. The individual must not be a graduate of the University. This award is not necessarily presented each year. 2.
