April 17, 2017 Welcome to Anoka Extra! The Anoka Technical College is proud to bring to you its first bi-monthly newsletter edition. We hope it serves as a focal point for community events and involvement and are excited to provide a positive and engaging platform for all to enjoy. We look forward to helping you ring in the Summer! Laura Olafson, Public Relations Coordinator The results are in... elections were held on April 5th. After a day of excellent voter turnout, ballots were tallied and we were left with our new executive board. Thanks to all that came out and voted, as well as to all those who ran for office! Additional thanks to all those who completed and turned in surveys. Your input is invaluable. Look for those survey ideas to be addressed in upcoming the Senate Council Corner (P. 5) segments! Continued on page 2

Continued from page 1 Meet your Fall 2017! What is a student senate you ask? Great question! A student senate is a group of students that acts as a voice for the student body at large. Our goal is to make campus life as nice as possible. Have a question? We will answer it for you and if we don t know the answer we will find out. Are you having problems with an instructor but don t know how to address it? Come talk with us and we can help you. Ideas on ways to improve our school? You should be on the senate! No, seriously you should be on the senate! Our goal is to have representation from every program on the senate. By being there you will give your program a voice. You will also bring any info that we discussed in our meeting back to your program. We volunteer our time on things that happen around our campus from open houses to graduations. We sit on committees that discuss everything from food services to the book store to the hiring of faculty here. We are also a part of MSCSA (Minnesota State College Student Association), a group of people that represent all two year and vocational schools in Minnesota. We lobby on your behalf to keep tuition as low as possible and keep funding for our school coming our way. On behalf of our I invite you to stop by our office and have a talk with any one of us. Our goal is to serve you and we can t do that without your input.. Tom Lien, President Vice President Robertta Warnpeh Secretary Melissa Zaitz Public Relations Coordinator Mary Allenson Director of Development Nick Monghan Treasurer Christine Anderson Director of Internal Affairs Mark Mugambi Continued on page 3
