j NEAL ELECTRIC LIVE WIRE Issue 2 LIVEWIRE East county detention center indio, ca (image by the conco companies) In This Issue East County Detention Center By Paula Menard Indio, California will soon host the new East County Detention Center, which is being built on a six-acre site supporting 1500+ beds in the county of Riverside. The old detention center was built in the mid-1950s and the new facility is state of the art, constructed by Neal s excellent craftsmen. The detention center is comprised of a Support Building and two Pod based housing buildings, which will have an onsite clinic, classrooms, recreation yards, video visitation room, a full kitchen and dedicated housing units for inmates that require separation from other inmates. The center is also designed to be eco-friendly and the designers are aiming for the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design silver level rating for energy-saving. Neal has brought together an excellent team for a job of this size. The collaborative team structure lead by General Foreman Tim Scott, BIM Manager Jason Adam, Superintendent Mike Wittbrodt and Sr. Project Manager Robert Liles, will put Neal Electric in a position to succeed as the project gets close to ramping up. Neal Electric has developed a very close relationship with Clark Construction and many sub trades on the project. Currently, the project is focusing on structural concrete erection and has started forming up to level 2 of the support building. Neal Electric currently has 6 electricians on the project but it is estimated that by this time next year, the number could reach up to 100. The total project is estimated to take 30 months and will be completed by December of 2017. Thanks again to all Neal employees who have contributed so far, including Sr. Estimator Dave Barrera, our Project Manager and awesome field staff! LATTC East Parking Structure (EPS) By Scott Betancourt The East Parking Structure will be located at 23 rd and Grand Avenue on the southeast corner. It is a design-build project. The project management is by Bernards. It is a 1,000 stall, 6-story parking structure. Net Zero Energy Building with car counting system and storage on 1.4 acre urban site. By its material palette, it visually connects with the Construction Technology Building and new campus building across the street. Another milestone in the bond construction program that is changing the environment of Los Angeles Trade Tech. Architectural Rendering 2

Daniel Klingenhofer Chisinau 2016 Chisinau - 2016 Up Close with Daniel Klingenhofer Mission Trip to Chisinau By Isabel Nogales A couple months ago, many of us donated to Daniel s mission trip in exchange for his wife s exquisite desserts. Although we were filled with delicious pastries, many of us were left wondering what his trip was about, and how it went. Daniel was kind enough to share his story with us! 1. Where did you go? The capital of Moldova, Chisinau. It is between Romania and Ukraine. It has about 500,000 people in the city. It is the poorest country in Europe and the country with the highest sex trafficking crime rate. 2. What was the purpose of this mission trip? We went to the streets to tell people about God s love for them and to start a non-denominational church. Once the church gets going, the church group will set up food banks, help orphans and set up a sex trafficking safe haven. The leader of our trip is moving there permanently this winter. It s usually a 5 year commitment. 3. Biggest Obstacle? The country itself. It s a very dark and cold country. They are very stoic, no one can look each other in the eye. The government as well. They are extremely corrupt and take a cut from sex offenders. 4. Highlight of the trip? Leaving $100 for the Moldovan pastor, Vitali. It will feed 100 families for one month. 5. Person who left a big impression on you? Vitali. He has a wife and three kids, no money and yet he still takes in orphans and feeds the poor whenever he can. 6. Your take away from this experience? How blessed I really am compared to the rest of the world. How so little of my money can help so many people in other countries. How much Moldova needs God s love. Church Group in Chisinau 3

A Glimpse into Our Future Home By Isabel Nogales With our move just around the corner, I wanted to share an update on our new Vista office. As many already know, our official move date is August 26, 2016. With that in mind, we need to prepare what we are bringing with us and what we are leaving behind. Meruelo has done a great job in the design of the building and it is really coming along! The pictures do not do it justice, but at least you get an idea of what to look forward to. 1. Embracing Change By Isabel Nogales At one point or another, everyone has faced a significant change in their lifetime. Whether it be in a relationship, family or workplace. It seems that the only constant thing today is the how fast things keep changing. Change is inevitable and it s how things evolve and move forward. Being aware of why change happens and knowing how to cope with it will not only benefit you, but may also open new doors on this new path. We all know change can be scary, which is why we resist it. We are comfortable with our routine, knowing that person will answer your morning call every day, having that daily chat with your co-workers or sending out your competitive bids; however, when change occurs, I believe it s an opportunity for growth and to move forward. According to Lisa Mooney (Demand Media, 2016), there are several benefits that come from change. Promotes New Ways of Thinking o Changes compel individuals to think in new and exciting ways. Breaks Monotony o Change often provides the refreshment a worker needs to refocus his/her energy and increase his/her interest. Presents New Opportunities o We ve all seen this in action! People will come and go in your life, which creates opportunities for new relationships and job advancement. Encourages Skills Growth o Changes can require employees to master new skills so they can accomplish new duties. Allows employees to shine o Change shows the true colors of an employee (or significant other). Those who accept change with a positive attitude and work hard to cope with the difference in their environment are those who will shine. Mooney points out a list of great benefits we can all gain from accepting change. Some resist at first, some take on the challenge without hesitation, and both are completely okay as long as you get there. Being open to change helps with both, personal and business relationships by creating stronger bonds. Challenge yourself to be open to change and overcome any hurdles on your path! 5
