Review workplan b.action items i.membership - Fabio Machado updated the committee update o 7 new members joined in the last month; total:73 o From Sept. 2011 March 2012 there s been a 57% increase in membership, from 42 73 members. o Active members: 47; Members at Large: 26 o Members have diverse areas of expertise ii.website/member - NM updated the committee Highlights o Initiatives have been uploaded o NM requested that minutes be uploaded in a timelier fashion iii.newsletter - KM passed a sign-up sheet for future newsletter items iv.access to Healthy - YG updated the committee Food Working o Roger Horne is going to meet with the planning office at the City Group of Miami to try to incorporate the ordinance into Miami 21 o Food Access report is now hosted in the Consortium website under resources section o Meeting takes place at 1:00 PM, before the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Committee meeting - BP relayed to the committee that she was drafting legislation to define agricultural use as a use o Looking for committee feedback when the legislation is drafted as well as a list of stakeholders v. Improve - As a response to the committee participation survey conducted last year, communication HBE members gathered at Bayfront Parkway on March 2 nd and collaboration o Feedback was positive from those who attended and would like to see it done more often. o Next event is planned for July at the new Miami-Dade College vi.obj. 2.2: FIU Bike Policy Project building - Skipped; Florinda Gali did not attend meeting - FM will send the member directory via e-mail - NR was delegated to provide the update for the Food Policy Council - AG to contact Melissa Hege about securing the venue 2

vii. Obj 2.2: Wal- Mart midtown development viii. Presentation Working Group (PWG) CONSORTIUM FOR A HEALTHIER MIAMI-DADE - Erin Healy is looking for more members to join her cause of opposing a Wal-Mart development in downtown. She argues that it will not necessarily improve food access in the area. - As a Committee, HBE s role would be to educate on the pros/cons and draft a letter of support - City of Miami has not received the final plans yet but if there are any major changes, it would have to go to a public hearing - AG proposed that the Committee take a stand on the issue and outlined the necessary steps and actions: o Have both sides of the issue present to the Committee o All active members will vote on what actions the Committee will support o Educate on benefits and adverse effects and send to the executive board for approval o Write letter of support o If members want to advocate, they must do it individually - The Committee discussed having an educational forum to educate the public on the HBE issues related o The Urban Environmental League could be a possible partner to host the event - Working group will not be built until AG and DH discuss with the Executive Board - DH updated the committee o The PWG met on Feb. 28 th to finalize the presentation for Dr. Rivera s class: Emerging Issues in Public Health on March 20 th o CDC Opa-locka invited DH. to present on April 18 th to the US Green Building Council; location has not been finalized yet o PWG will be presenting to UM s Urban Environment and Public Health course on April 5 th, from 4:30pm 5:30pm Dr. Scott Brown invited committee members to attend the student s presentation on April 26 th from 4:30pm 7:30 pm at the Clinical Research Building room 995. o PGS spoke to the committee know about the Knight Arts Challenge, - AG and DH to meet to discuss the issue - AG will contact Erin Healy and The Urban Environment League 3

in particular, she wanted to know if anyone had applied IS announced that The Alliance for Aging was applying o FIU School of Architecture requested a presentation for HBE c. Next Steps - No update IV. Member - KB announced that the Food Access Report has been printed and will be Updates/Highlights sent out soon; the report is also hosted on the Consortium website - IS announced that the PSAs for Pasos Seguros began airing on CBS4 and America TV - CW implored members to join the Green Mobility network to push for more policy focused on pedestrian safety - CW applied to the Green lane project which would create a buffer area for bikes right next to traffic lanes. - CW announced that the DDA in collaboration with the planning, public works and capital improvement departments are drafting a complete streets guiding document. - NR presented to the Marketing and Membership Committee about Philantrofest. - CW announced that March is Bike month and that a proclamation will be a. RWJ Roadmaps to Health application held in City Hall on March 22 nd - AG announced that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has opened applications for a 2-year, $200,000 (+ matching funds) grant open for proposals o The first webinar is scheduled March 20 th from 1PM- 3PM; let AG know if interested in becoming a partner. o Main applicant will be the Consortium but no fiscal agent has been decided yet. o The proposal application is available on the Robert Wood Johnson and the County Health Rankings websites. V. CPPW Updates a. City of Miami - CW updated the Committee o Installed bike racks in 15 schools; total: 99 racks. Need 3 more school permits - Members are to let AG know if interested in applying to the grant 4

b.city of North Miami c. MDC Parks and Recreation CONSORTIUM FOR A HEALTHIER MIAMI-DADE o Minor stripping corrections to some existing markings. - YG updated the Committee in JO absence o Need FDOT to commence their project in order to proceed with the last 20 installations. o Farmer s market is doing well; currently 15 vendors participate in the market. - JB updated the Committee o Healthy Vending machines will be installed in 25 parks by the end of the month. o The Worksite Wellness draft will be written by the end of the month o Four fitness zones locations have been identified, equipment has been ordered and construction is underway One fitness zone needed to be relocated o Applied for no-cost extension to do user and perception surveys at the fitness zones and vending machines sites. d. DOH - Working will all partners to wrap-up - NIMS survey has been completed and is undergoing analysis - The media campaign has shifted it s messaging to I made Healthy Happen, showcasing the work of the CPPW partners - Held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Downtown Farmer s Market - CPPW staff is being extended through December VI. Old Business a. Food Policy Council b. CDMP Transportation - NR updated the Committee o Last meeting was focused on drafting an official document that detailed the goals and the logistics of membership. A survey is being developed and will be sent out to determine what focus areas the council should concentrate on to develop their goals. o Next meeting is March 26, 6pm -8pm, at the Little Haiti Cultural Center - Bring back next month. 5
