ISU Regulations on Scholarship for International Students Adopted on January 16, 2008 at the second meeting of the University Administration Council in the first semester of the academic year 2007 Amendments adopted on September 17, 2008 at the second first semester of the academic year 2008 Amendments adopted on March 4, 2009 at the second second semester of the academic year 2008 Amendments adopted on April 7, 2010 at the fourth second semester of the academic year 2009 by the President on April 12, 2010 Amendments to Articles 3, 4 and 8 ratified and promulgated by the President on September 29, 2010 by the President on February 15, 2012 by the President on October 23, 2013 by the President on June 23, 2015 Amendments to Articles 3, 7, 9, 13 and 14 ratified and promulgated by the President on March 22, 2016 Amendments to Articles 4, 5, 7, 9 and 14 ratified and promulgated by the President on November 01, 2016 Article 1 Article 2 The purpose of the I- Shou University Regulations for International Student Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations ) is to encourage and subsidize international students to apply for admission to I-Shou University (hereinafter referred to as the University ). The source of funding for this scholarship program is the subsidies granted by the Ministry of Education and the University s budget. 1

Article 3 Article 4 Article 5 Article 6 Article 7 The term international students mentioned herein refers to those admitted to the University in accordance with the International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan. The maximum duration of award to undergraduate students is four years, master s students two years, and doctoral students three years. The number of scholarship recipients varies every year depending on the annual budget. Scholarship types and amounts are classified as follows: 1. The scholarship amount for new international students (hereinafter referred to as the new student ) ranges between NT$40,000 and NT$180,000 per person. The scholarship amount will be equally divided by two and awarded in two separate semesters after being approved by the Scholarship Committee for International Students (hereinafter referred to as the Committee ). 2. The scholarship amount for continuing international students (hereinafter referred to as the continuing student, excluding those who are granted or continuing to receive the scholarship for new students), ranges between NT$10,000 and an amount equal to the sum of the tuition and other required fees payable per person. The scholarship will be awarded in the semester of approval after being approved by the Committee. Scholarship recipients are under an obligation to do service-learning under the supervision of the Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (hereinafter referred to as the Office ). The Office will evaluate the recipients performance on service-learning at the end of every semester, and the evaluation results will be an important reference for the Committee to the applications for the scholarship or for continuing to receive new student scholarship. Application requirements are as follows: 1. New students: a. Applications and supporting documents will be reviewed by the Committee, and the Committee will decide on the number of scholarship recipients and the scholarship amounts awarded. b. For a new student who has been granted the scholarship for more than one year upon admission, he/she is eligible to receive the scholarship for the next academic year as long as he/she has been ranked among the top 20% in his/her class in terms of the average grade (the result shall be rounded up to the nearest integer), has had a personal conduct score of 85 or higher, and has no record of minor demerits or even severer punishment in the current academic year. 2

Article 8 Article 9 2. Continuing students: a. Having studied at the University for one academic year, and having been ranked among the top 20% in his/her class in terms of the average semester grade in the previous semester; and b. Having received a personal conduct score of 85 or higher, and having no record of minor demerits or even severer punishment in the previous semester; and c. Having taken at least two courses in the previous semester. Students who meet the requirements as referred to in the preceding three subparagraphs may file an application before the deadline as referred to in Article 8. The number of scholarship recipients will be discussed and decided by the Committee. 3. International students who are enrolled at professional programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. The application periods are as follows: 1. New students: apply before the deadline of admission application for international students fall or spring semester, respectively 2. Continuing students: apply to the Office on the first week of June and on the last week of December. Documents to be submitted are as follows: 1. New students: b. a photocopy of the curriculum vitae; c. two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English; d. photocopies of certificates or proofs of academic studies and extracurricular activities; e. a photocopy of the academic transcript from the highest degree or the proof of class rank upon graduation (in either Chinese or English); and f. a photocopy of an official score report on any national exam held in an applicant s state of nationality, if applicable. 2. New students (for continuing to receive the new student scholarship): b. one letter of recommendation from the chair of the department (the director of the institute/program) where an applicant is studying; c. one letter of recommendation from an applicant s supervisor (for master s and doctoral students only); and 3

d. one academic transcript and the record of personal conduct (prepared by the Office). e. The proof of international volunteer service (optional) 3. Continuing students: b. one letter of recommendation from the chair of the department (the director of the institute/program) where an applicant is studying and one of the applicant s course instructors, respectively; c. one letter of recommendation from an applicant s supervisor (for master s and doctoral students only); d. one academic transcript and the record of personal conduct (prepared by the Office); and e. the proof of international volunteer service (optional). Article 10 Scholarship recipients shall report to the Office and complete registration on the first day of school. The Office will deduct the tuition, other required fees and dormitory fees from the scholarship, and then return the balance to the recipients. If the scholarship amount, however, is less than the total fees payable, recipients have to pay for the difference. Article 11 If a new student who is also a scholarship recipient will not live on campus during the first year of study for special reasons, he/she shall not request the University to give him/her the scholarship amount used to offset dormitory fees as referred to in the preceding article. Article 12 Scholarship applications submitted in accordance with the Regulations will be reviewed by the Committee, and the Committee will decide on the recipients and the amount awarded to each recipient. Recipients will be notified by the Office, and the names of scholarship recipients will be announced as well. Article 13 The recipients of this scholarship are NOT eligible to apply for other types of scholarship available at the University during the same academic year. International students who have been awarded the Taiwan Scholarship by the R.O.C. government are NOT eligible to apply for this scholarship. Article 14 A scholarship recipient shall not receive the scholarship if he/she 1) does not complete the registration procedure for the semester when the scholarship is awarded, 2) retains the student status or 3) transfers to another school. The recipient will be asked to return the full amount of the scholarship awarded if he/she suspends the schooling or withdraws from the University while the University is in session. In addition, those who return to the University after suspension of schooling, have obtained a personal conduct 4

score less than 85 for the previous semester, have attendance rate below 70 percent without compelling reasons, or have had a record of minor demerits or even severer punishment, will be asked to return the full amount of scholarship awarded in the current semester and disqualified from receiving subsequent scholarships; to maintain his/her status as a student of the University, such a student must pay up the tuition, other required fees, and/or dormitory fees previously offset by the scholarship. Article 15 A scholarship recipient shall lose the right to receive the scholarship and return the full amount of the scholarship awarded if found to have submitted counterfeit documents or fake qualifications with clear evidence provided. Article 16 The Committee consists of the President, vice presidents, the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Affairs, the Dean of General Affairs, the Dean of the Office, the Secretary-General, college deans, and the Dean of Accounting. The Committee may invite any person it thinks necessary to attend committee meetings without the power to vote. The President serves as the chairperson, and vice presidents serve as vice chairpersons. The Office is responsible for all the affairs regarding this scholarship. Article 17 The Regulations b ecome effective on the third day of promulgation after being adopted by the University Administration Council and ratified by the President. Note: In the event of any disputes or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or terms of these Regulations, the Chinese language version shall prevail. 5
