Urgent Care --- lmprovin9 urg~nt care services m Walsall --,....,2M... 20t7 This document is about our plans to change urgent care services in Walsall. Urgent care is for minor illnesses or injuries: Where your life is not at risk You cannot wait to see your local doctor (GP) If you need urgent care currently you can: Go to the Urgent Care Centre in the town centre Go to the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Road Hospital Use the GP Out of Hours Service - by dialling 111 Get advice from dialling 111 3

Why change? Since Urgent Care Centres were set up things have changed: NHS 111 has improved. It can now arrange appointments with the Out of Hours GP service The Government wants us to have new Urgent Treatment Centres, open 12 hours a day, seven days a week Fewer people have been using the Urgent Care Centre in the town centre than we expected More people are using the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital than we expected People say that the different urgent care services are confusing. They don t know which to choose Too many people are going straight to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at Manor Hospital 4

We want to make it easier for people to reach the right service first time. We need to reduce the number of people going to A&E when their life is not at risk. We can ask these people to go to the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital as it is in the same building. We currently spend over 1million on the Urgent care centre in the town centre. We could use some of this money to improve the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital. 5

Our plans for change Option 1 Current urgent care services remain the same This option means that the two urgent care centres in the town centre and Manor Hospital would remain open. GP out of hours and NHS 111 services would remain the same. People would still find urgent care services complicated. We wouldn t be able to upgrade the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital to be an Urgent Treatment Centre. 6

Option 2 - The Urgent Care Centre in the town centre is closed. We create an Urgent Treatment Centre at Manor Hospital. This is our favourite option. This option would mean that: Fewer patients will need to go to A&E which will reduce waiting times. We would save about half a million pounds. There would be no urgent care centre in the Town centre. Patients would have to see their own GP, phone 111 or go to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Manor Hospital. People have some problems with parking at Manor Hospital 7

Option 3 Reduce the opening hours for the Urgent Care Centre in the town centre. The Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital, GP out of hours and NHS 111 services would remain the same. This option would mean that: People would still find urgent care services complicated We wouldn t be able to upgrade the Urgent Care Centre at Manor Hospital to be an Urgent Treatment Centre We would save a smaller amount of money 8
