Dear seniors and families, Although it may seem a bit premature, allow me to jump the gun and congratulate you on your upcoming Beloit College graduation. Plans are well under way for your Commencement weekend; what we aspire to be a signature Beloiter moment. It is a weekend full of traditions and surprises, a time to celebrate your bright future and honor your time at Beloit. Melody and I encourage you to rest up for this special weekend so as to participate in as much of it as possible. It is not too early to pencil into your calendar our garden party reception, baccalaureate, departmental receptions, and more. Not to mention Sunday s Commencement ceremony (buy some sunscreen). We look forward to celebrating with you. It will be a particularly great day to be a Beloiter. Saturday Events Saturday, May 19 President s Garden Party for Seniors and Parents 3 4:30 p.m. All seniors and members of their families are cordially invited to attend the President s Garden Party reception for the class of 2018 at the President s House. The Garden Party will be moved into Center for the Sciences Atrium in the event of inclement weather. Baccalaureate 4:45 6 p.m. Eaton Chapel Baccalaureate will be held at Eaton Chapel. All seniors, parents, and other Commencement guests are invited to attend the event, which will feature a variety of performances by members of the class of 2018. Departmental Receptions Seniors and parents are invited to attend gatherings sponsored by many academic departments on Saturday or at other times during the weekend. Commencement Sunday, May 20 Continental Breakfast - 8-10 a.m. DK s Café Join other graduates, their families and friends for a complimentary continental breakfast. Line up for Processional 10:30 a.m. World Affairs Center (WAC) All graduates need to arrive dressed in cap and gown in front of the World Affairs Center (WAC) by 10:30 a.m. to begin the line up. Staff and our Chief Marshal will assist graduates with this process. Timeliness and the cooperation of the graduates is essential for a smooth processional. Commencement 11 a.m. Middle College Lawn We encourage family and friends to arrive early, as seating is limited. The ceremony can also be viewed on screen in Eaton Chapel or on line at www.beloit.edu/live. The livestream event will appear an hour or two before the ceremony begins. No tickets are required for seniors, parents, and guests for either the Baccalaureate service or the Commencement exercises. Adequate seating will be provided for Commencement guests whether the ceremony is held outdoors or in the Flood Arena due to inclement weather. No Pets allowed. Post-Commencement Lunch 1 p.m. Pearsons Lawn Box lunches are available for purchase (cash or check) at the picnic tent on the lawn of Pearsons Hall. Tickets that have been pre-ordered can be picked up at the white picnic tent. Signage will direct you to the appropriate table. In the event of inclement weather, tickets will be available in the Flood Arena lobby before and after the ceremony. The lunch will be served in the Atrium of the Center for the Sciences. Things To Consider Photographs of Graduates Arrangements have been made with GradImages for a professional photographer to record the moment you are awarded your diploma. You will receive a free passport-sized, full color proof in the mail approximately one week after the ceremony. There is no obligation to purchase. You have the option of ordering from a variety of packages. By pre-registering http://www.gradimages.com/preregistration your proofs will be sent directly to you within 72 hours. Flowers for Commencement The Beloit College Mortar Board Society will be selling flowers at Commencement for your convenience. Rose bouquets are $20 for a half-dozen and $25 for full dozen and will be available prior to Commencement exercises and after. Thirty percent of all proceeds go to the Mortar Board Society. Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Beloit College Turtle Creek Bookstore Hours Hours for Commencement weekend are: Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residence Hall Checkout Reminder Seniors must check out of residential hall rooms by 8 p.m., Sunday, May 20. Parking/Accomm0dations Commencement Parking Parking near the Middle College Lawn will be at a premium leading up to Commencement. Please notice the highlighted areas on the map for places to park. Special Needs Parking: Parking will be available for those with disabilities or special needs on the 600 block of College Street. A drop-off area is designated on the corner of Chapin and College Street for those wishing to drop off elderly or special needs individuals who do not require accessible parking. Please note on the map where the accessible drop off is located. Special Accommodations Individuals with special needs requiring additional accommodations (hearing impaired) or accessible parking may contact the Office of Communications and Marketing at 608-363-2625. For the cost of $10 a box lunch and a beverage will be available. Tickets are not required for graduates. Your ticket(s) may be claimed on Commencement day, Sunday, May 20, at the lunch tent on Pearsons Lawn from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or immediately following Commencement.
