Page 2 Trustee News The Trustees have been hard at work keeping up with the maintenance at the church. Here's the latest examples: The refrigerator in the kitchen died right before Christmas. Got fixed well enough right after New Years. And not cheaply. There is an electrical issue in Fellowship Hall which has affected the rear closet (including the sump pump), all the west wall plugs, and a couple of the cove lights. We will hopefully have these fixed soon. We are in process of freshening the lower bathrooms. The Men's room has been painted on the block walls. The Women's room has had the walls patched, and will be painted in the next couple weeks. Also, on Saturday, Feb 4th, BHUMC will once again be the center of the racing universe as we host the Pack 1049 Pinewood Derby! We'll have pictures for next month's Bugle. The AARP Foundation offers free income tax return preparation and free filing for all taxpayers with middle to low income with special attention to those age 60 and older. This free service, available February 1st through April 14th, is provided by the AARP Foundation and their IRS-certified tax preparers in cooperation with various civic organizations. Appointments are now available at many locations around the metropolitan area: Southfield Parks and Recreation Call for appointment - 248.796.4650 Birmingham Baldwin Library Call 248-554-4650 for appointment. Walk-ins will be accom- Think Spring! - Three gardening seminars are planned during February with Janet Macunovich, a well-known gardener, lecturer and landscape designer who owns Perennial Favorites with her husband Steve Nikkila, a professional photographer. This is the seventh year Janet has lead gardening seminars for the BH Community Garden hosted by BHUMC. The seminars will be on three Thursdays - Feb 2, Feb 16, and Mar 2 - from 7 to 9 pm

Page 3 A Visit With Mary Eleanor Roleston, Corinne Dowell, Connie Kenty (and myself) had a lovely visit with Mary. The facility seems to fit all her needs and she and has made many friends with a number of other residence. We dined in the private dining room than proceeded to her living quarters where her dog Chelsea was there to greet us. Alma Winkworth and her husband Bob took a ride out to Ann Arbor and visited Mary a few days later. If you would like to see Mary or give her a call, her address and phone number is listed below. She doesn t spend a lot of time in her room since there are many events she gets involved in, so a call in the evening or leaving a message on her answering machine would work and Mary will return your call.

Page 4 News From Bryn Lunch after Church is scheduled for Sunday Feb 5 at 11:15 in fellowship hall. A Mexican meal is planned which will include hard and soft shell tacos and nachos and cheese. The cost is $6. Please plan to stay and have lunch before you go home for the big game. A Pancake Supper is planned for Shrove Tuesday which is Tuesday Feb 28 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, bacon and fruit and it is all you can eat. The cost is $5/person. Invite a friend or neighbor to join you for supper that night. Any questions please see Bryn. Noisy Sunday is back the first Sunday of every month starting in Feb. The Sunday school will be collecting money for Water 4 Life again this year and I will try to keep the congregation informed of the amount that is collected.the Education committee is looking into using one of the bulletin boards in fellowship hall to keep the congregation informed. A Men s is being looked into to begin this Spring. The study will be every other week and can either be held at a members home, or the church. There has not been a book decided on yet but Pastor Anthony will help pick one out that will be relevant to men. If you are interested or want more info please let me know on Sunday. I am hoping to get it started sometime in early spring. Ladies Night Out is planned for Friday February 17th at Red Olive on Southfield between 12 and 13 Mile. Plan to meet at church at 6:15 p.m. or carpool or at the restaurant at 6:30 p.m.. I am asking for you to let me know whether you will be there or not so I can make an accurate reservation. My number is 248-496-9208 and you can leave me a message.

Page 5 The Young at Heart is a group of seniors who meet monthly at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church for lunch, devotions and fellowship. Our luncheons are held on the 3rd Monday of every month. We meet in Fellowship Hall at 11:30 a.m. to visit. We bless the food at 12:00 PM. Devotions generally last from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Soup, beverages and dessert are provided and those who attend also bring a sandwich if they wish. Three dollars is collected to cover the cost of food and paper goods. Reservations can be made by calling Alma Winkworth at 248-647-6240 or by letting her know after Sunday service on the day before the luncheon. A small group of seniors also get together on the 2nd Wednesday of each month for Game Day. On that day we meet at 12:00 p.m. Each person brings their own lunch. We usually play simple card games together but other games and puzzles are available if you so desire. Game Day will be February 8th at 12:00 and we will be held in Fellowship Hall.
