Organizing Committee Welcome We are very pleased to welcome you all to the ASoP Conference, organized by the WHO Collaborating Center (WHO-CC) for Advocacy and Training in Pharmacovigilance in Accra, Ghana. The use of a wide variety of medicinal products in Africa creates the need for robust pharmacovigilance systems critical across the continent. With regional differences in pharmacovigilance systems, collaboration among African countries is essential, as it promotes strengthening of pharmacovigilance through mutual exchange of best practices in ensuring patient safety. Besides supports from national and international stakeholders involved in PV, the WHO has been very supportive in building sustainable pharmacovigilance systems. To this end, WHO has established two collaborating centers: the WHO-CC in Ghana (2009) and the WHO-CC in Morocco (2011) to help build pharmacovigilance capacity in Africa. Similarly, the African Society of Pharmacovigilance (ASoP) was launched during the 32nd WHO meeting in Rabat in November 2009, where representatives from 16 African nations met to discuss a pharmacovigilance society for African professionals. Subsequently, ASoP became the African Chapter of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) during the ISoP General Assembly in November 2010 in Accra, Ghana during the 10th ISoP Annual Meeting. The main objectives of the African Chapter of ISoP are to develop and foster pharmacovigilance in African countries and to promote a regular exchange of information on pharmacovigilance issues through meetings, workshops, bulletins and trainings. The conference will take place in Accra from 25 th to 27 th November, 2015 with the main focus being Pharmacovigilance in Africa: New Methods, New Opportunities, New Challenges.
