Photo by Bruce Cain Over 450 people attended the 2011 CVEA Annual Meeting of Members held in Glennallen on April 12 and Valdez on April 14. Members were given up-to-date information on issues that are affecting their Cooperative. CEO Robert Wilkinson gave a very informative presentation on the Allison Creek Hydroelectric Project that included what has been accomplished to date, details of the Run of River alternative, potential costs and savings to the member, and how CVEA will move the project forward. Members were also updated on other topics including Silver Lake, wind assessment, environmental and regulatory issues, an upcoming rate study, and outages and reliability. In addition to reports, CVEA members were encouraged to ask questions about issues that were important to them, and CEO Wilkinson was on hand to respond. Other highlights included the announcement of the Board of Directors election results, the introduction of the 2011 scholarship award recipients, and a presentation outlining CVEA s newest member programs; Together We Save and the Co-op Connections Card. Congratulations to Jim Manning who was reelected to serve on the Board in the Copper Basin District and to Tom Kuckertz and Jeff Saxe who were re-elected to serve in the Valdez District. Copper Valley 2011 CVEA Community Foundation Scholarship Awards The CVEA Community Foundation (CVEACF) is proud to offer educational scholarships to graduating seniors, returning college students and adults attending PWSCC, and sophomores and juniors attending the Idaho Youth Rally. In 2011, the Foundation awarded $7,500 to students in our service area to further their educational goals. In addition, one student in each district will be sent to represent our Cooperative, our communities, and our state at the Idaho Youth Rally. In addition, the CVEACF will donate $1,500 to the PWSCC Adult Basic Education Program. These funds will be used to provide scholarships to Adult Basic Education students to pursue college classes and continue their education. Funding of the scholarship program comes from unclaimed capital credits that have reverted to the Cooperative and from members like you, who have made one-time or recurring donations to the Community Foundation. Through the Foundation and the scholarship program, CVEA is making an investment in our youth and in our future. Please join us in congratulating the 2011 CVEA Community Foundation scholarship winners.
