Affairs program KNPR s State of Nevada, which Nevada Public Radio produces for the community. Calls are regularly accepted regarding open position inquires. In each case, prospective applicants are directed to our website whether there is an opening or not. Resumes are also collected from individuals who wish to have their information be available in the event of any position openings. On April 24, 2014, three employee s daughters participated in Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day. The theme this year is Plant a Seed, Grow a Future. The participants received an over view of the station, met producers and learned about our program, KNPR s State of Nevada, and sat in on an interview. Learned about and record an on-air spot with one of our on-air announcers. They also met with the Desert Companion Editor, Andrew Kiraly and learned about producing the stations monthly magazine. After learning about the station and what we do here the girls assisted the Development Department with labeling and stamping postcards to our members. It was a great day for the students; they learned about NVPR and how their parents work assists the station in its mission to serve the community. On February 22, 2014 and May 19, 2014 we provided local Boy Scout Troops, their troop leader and parents a tour of the Donald W. Reynolds Broadcast Center, home of Nevada Public Radio. They learned about the history of Nevada Public Radio and toured the studios where our programming is produced and broadcasted. The students also toured the Desert Companion offices and learned about producing the stations monthly magazine. On March 16, 2014, Morning Edition Host Luis Hernandez visited a local Title One middle school, Robert Gibson Middle School, and spoke to three classes about Journalism and Nevada Public Radio. This program was in partnership with The Smith Center. Mr. Hernandez talked to the students about the Journalism field, public broadcasting and NVPR s role in reporting the News and their mission to serve the community. He spoke about his education and how he got started in Broadcasting and gave them background on his role at NVPR. The students participate in an exercise that made them Junior Reporters and recorded some of the students reporting the news. The students asked Mr. Hernandez questions about his experiences in the journalism field, the impact of the stories he covered and what he studied in school. It was a very successful presentation.
