ROTC/Arnold Air Society Lt. Col. Joseph Bouchard, Jr. was not present. Capt. Rich Graham gave the report. Field Training Candidates: We submitted 49 AS 200 (Sophomore) cadets to receive allocations to field training this summer. We are expecting around 50% of them to be accepted and to go to field training this summer. Arnold Air Society has 25 new candidates going through the initiation process. This is an intense 8-week course. An Awards Ceremony will be held 20 April 15 6:00 PM at the Kennedy Union Ball Room at the University of Dayton. Cadets need to perform a certain number of service hours. Will pencil-in the Air Force Marathon in September as an event they can assist with. Junior ROTC Col. Fred Schuster: The AFJROTC AFA Drill Meet is scheduled for Saturday, 12 March 2011. It is sponsored by our AFA Chapter and hosted by Tecumseh High School Junior ROTC OH-881. Ten schools with 400 cadets from five states have already signed-on to attend. We expect approximately 18 to 20 schools with 700 to 800 cadets to attend. Tecumseh AFJROTC is looking for community partners or individuals who would like to make a tax-deductible donation to sponsor individual events at the Drill Meet. Sixteen events are available for sponsorship and each requires a minimum donation of $100.00. Donors will be recognized with a 24 x 30 poster at the event and have their company or individual name acknowledged in the Drill Meet Program. Donors will also be recognized at this year s Drill Meet and the Drill Meets in 2012 and 2013. The donation will be renewable at that time. Funds are used to support the approximately $10,000.00 cost of the Drill Meet. Forms for donations are available by calling 937-845-4464. Only checks are acceptable at this time. Credit card donations and donation forms will be available in the near future on our website. Tecumseh AFJROTC would like to thank the Wright Memorial Chapter for supplying the funds needed to purchase the trophies for our Drill Meet. We would like to offer any member of AFA Chapter 212, including Community Partners, the opportunity to award trophies during our Drill Meet Award Ceremony. It is an opportunity to put your Chapter or your company in front of approximately 2,000 people.. plus it s fun! Give us a call at 937-845-4464 to put your name on the list. We will provide all details at that time. 3 March 2011 Annual Cadets Military Ball at the Wright-Patterson Club and Banquet Center The AFA Chapter participates with a contribution to the JROTC scholarship fund; everyone asked me to pass along their thanks to the Chapter for this support. Membership Dee Cox: One membership has been turned in. Aerospace Education Sharon Murner: AFA Education News: Shiela Wallace would like to thank everyone for the good wishes and get well cards and would especially like to thank ITT (Kent Shin and Jessica Derr) for the beautiful flowers. The AFA Educators Action Team (Julie, Sharon, and Shiela) Teachers Workshops at the 2011 TechFest went extremely well on 19 February. Over 100 teachers participated in 16 workshops on STEM-related activities. We would like to thank all of the presenters and all of the volunteers. (Due to unforeseen call-outs, both Julie and Sharon became presenters.) A special thanks to Ron Georges for working all day Saturday in the TechFest Souvenir Store, and to Vita Eonta and her sister who helped stuff the TechFest children s bags on Friday night. The Teacher of the Year for the Chapter, Marcus Petitjean, has sent in all of necessary material that needs to be forwarded on to State and National for inclusion in the National Competition. We wish him well! The next Workshops for the AFA Educators Action Team are set for Saturday, 16 April 2011, at the Holiday Inn Dayton Mall (a Community Partner). As with the TechFest Workshops, these will be free for the educators and Wright State University provides free Continuing Education Units for the participants. The luncheon will include remarks from Bernie Shock, Cyber Patriots Commissioner, and Judith Wehn from the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The AFA Wright Memorial Chapter had 14 of its Grant Writing Workshop participants receive the Air Force Association s 2011 Educator Grants. The competition is stiff and we are extremely happy to announce that the State of Ohio had 24 grants in total. This is the most any state received, the next closest state in number was Florida with 20. Programs Fred Pumroy: Not present Government Relations Ron Thompson: Nothing to report. 4

Veterans Affairs George Simons/Vita Eonta: George and Vita attended the Bingo Party at the VA which was held during Salute to Veterans Week. Coffee and cake was served to the veterans and prizes were given out to the Bingo winners. The Chapter sponsored three Bingo parties held that day by providing the cakes. It would have been good to have more volunteers so the Chapter could have been represented at all three Bingo parties instead of just the one George and Vita helped with. George and Vita will be attending the VAVS Quarterly Meeting on Thursday, 10 March. State of Ohio President s Report Kent Owsley: All State of Ohio AFA members are invited and encouraged to attend the State AFA Meeting on 16 April 2011. The meeting will be in Dayton and take place at the same time as the State Teachers Workshop. The Cyber Patriot Commissioner, Bernie Skoch, will attend this meeting and provide an overview, status update, and how to get going with Cyber Patriot. He will also be a guest speaker at the Teachers Meeting. OLD BUSINESS: Nothing to report. NEW BUSINESS: Jeff Liffick passed out copies of the Chapter s 2011 Budget. It was voted on and approved. A copy will be submitted to the National Office. The meeting was adjourned at 1245 Hours. Submitted by: Mary Bloyd, AFA Chapter 212 Secretary Phone: 937-226-8273 Email: mbloyd@daytoncvb.net 5
