Transcription:

On a typical day, 6 or 7 youth are slain in this country, mostly inner-city, minority youth. Homicide is the second leading cause of death of young people between the ages of 10 and 24, only trailing unintentional accidents. That s more lives lost than from cancer, HIV, heart disease and suicide combined (1). Our youth are not living to get the opportunity to go to college. Jacobs Scholarship is in memory of those young people that never had the opportunity to go to college. Jacobs Scholarship helps us remember sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends whose lives have been taken away by youth violence and will never get the opportunity to experience college and the benefits of a post high school education. Jacobs Scholarship wants to give a senior from, Adams City, Lester Arnold or Prairie View High School a $1000 scholarship to help he or her pursue an education after High School. Jacobs Scholarship will also help young adults become more aware of how precious life is and how fast it can be taken. This also will reflect how violence in our community can affect everyone. We are making the scholarship eligible to applicants with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0. He/she must be accepted to any 2or 4 year accredited college or university or any accredited vocational/trade school. Jacobs Scholarship wants to help an emerging leader buy some college books, school supplies, or that meal he/she needs for the week. Whatever financial burden he or she has, we want to help with and help them experience college and be successful in life. The scholarship will be awarded every year at the recipient s high school end of the year awards and will be recognized at the Annual B.E.T.A.S. Foundation Spaghetti Jam Celebration.
