Open Carry: Open carry will become legal for people holding a license to carry (CHL in Texas or a Carry License from a state recognized by Texas) on January 1, 2016. Unlicensed Open Carry did not make it at all. A part of the bill that became law was the penalty for carrying past a 30.06 or a 30.07 sign from a class A misdemeanor to a class C misdemeanor if you leave the property immediately after being caught (a maximum $200 fine verses jail time). I still can't figure out what the $2 mental health background check effective Sept 1, 2015 and Sept 1, 2019 is all about. Campus Carry: Carry (concealed, I believe) in certain parts of state run colleges and universities becomes effective August 1, 2016. What and where those parts may be are still to be determined. Private colleges and universities may also be eligible for concealed carry at a later date. Somewhat of a victory, I think. I want to repeat the statement made by Charles Cotton who posted it on TexasCHLforum: "This is hands down the worst, least productive legislative session I've seen in 35 years. Childish ranting, backstabbing, outright lying, you name it, it's going on. If the only thing that passes is open-carry, then this session will be an absolute disaster and even that is far from certain." As to the status of the club due to the massive amount of rain we received this spring, the club is now open for use. The manual gates are the current method of entry to the property. The electric gate is still out or service but repair is under way. A new gate motor and controller has been installed higher than the old one so that if high water comes again, the electronics will remain above water. Cleanout of our buildings is still in progress although the buildings are open and available for use. Several plans are under consideration for the restoration of the buildings. We hope the work to restore these buildings will begin soon so we can get back to totally normal operations and we also hope that the forecast "godzilla el nino" developing in the Pacific will not repeat the rains this fall.

Quote How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of. Suzanna Gratia Hupp (TX) The Dallas Pistol Club Website Finally, the new website is now up and available for use. The page layout is similar to the old website. The content is also similar to what was on the original website. However, as time moves forward, the people most directly involved with the various sections and pages will be responsible for updating their areas of interest. This should make the website more relevant to those interested in the specific competition matches or other topics of interest. All information that is not restricted to club members is available for viewing by the public. This includes general information about the club, our CHL training section, membership information and information related to our various competition matches such as match requirements, details and results of previous matches. Club members are able to view information that is restricted to them. This includes the entry gate operations and codes, a quarterly financial overview of the club, minutes of the club board of director's meetings, previous copies of the club's X-Ring newsletter and reference information such as the club's Bylaws, Range Rules, approved caliber list and a printable match schedule. Club members are able to log in to the restricted sections with a specific username and password which is already coded into the database. A member's username is their gate code. This up to 5 digit number is to be entered in the space for the username. For now, do not use leading zero's if your gate code does not contain 5 digits. For example, if your gate code is 00101, enter 101 for your username. It was desired to use all 5 digits including any leading zero's, but the entry registration system has prevented that at this time. This may be a requirement in the future and the members will be notified of the requirement when it becomes necessary. The club member's password is the first letter of their name that appears on their membership card or badge and their last name all lowercase with no space in between and no name suffix such as Jr. or III. For example, if your name on your membership card is Q. John Public III, your password would be qpublic. This fixes the problem in the old website where using the member's name as the username was a problem since the club had 7 or 8 C--- Smith's. Another item of consideration is the use of email addresses. For members to enjoy full use of the site, they must modify their user profile to include a unique email address. This email address must be unique for all registered members. If there is a family membership where both husband and wife use the same address, only one may update their user profile to their common email address. The email address is required if a member wishes to contact a board member or a match director. Future capabilities of the website may include match registration and the ability to renew your membership online. For privacy concerns, inclusion of a member's email address has been left as an option for members to enter if they wish to enjoy the full capability of the new website. Please review the new website and send any comments you might have to the Club Administrator listed on the contact page or on the link in the Notices section about the website. Quote Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. Mark Twain

Why We Have This Rule You must put up a target on the Bullseye Range to shoot on that range. DPC has a rule that says you can t shoot into the short berm on the Bullseye range and that you must use a target when shooting on that range. There are two good reasons for that rule: 1. All bullets must impact the downrange berm, and 2. Shooting into the short berm tears up the berm and the berm acts as a ski ramp that might skip bullets over the downrange berms, walls and baffles. The downrange berm is designed to catch bullets fired directly into it; the short berm is not. The short berm is only used to protect the turning target mechanism used for Bullseye matches, and not as an impact area or a place to put targets. Use of a target, in a designated target frame and in a target holder at the 25 and 50-yard lines makes sure bullets impact the back berm. The target gives an aiming point to shoot at and causes the bullets to go where they are intended. Not necessary to use a new target, just that you shoot at the center of the target cardboard in a frame in a target holder, at either 25 or 50 yds. We actually had signs on the Bullseye range saying, Don t Shoot into Short Berms until some of our members thought the signs made great targets and shot destroyed them! Also, the bullseye shed is not a trash dump. It is part of the club and should be respected as such. Take your trash and place it in one of the trash bins instead of leaving it in the bullseye shed. Other requests for our club members: Steel targets on the back bays are being moved to different bays We allow members to move steel targets from bay to bay to practice, but sometimes those targets are not returned to the original bay. There are times when you might come out and find ten or more pieces of steel on Bay 1 and perhaps nothing on Bay 2. If someone were to come out to shoot at steel on the other bays, there may be no steel on that bay at all. This is especially a problem when the weather turns cooler in the spring and fall and there is a wait for a place to shoot. If you move steel targets from one bay to another, please put them back when you are through as a convenience to others. If you see little or no steel on one bay and several extra on another bay, please move the extras to the empty bay. Take down your cardboard targets when you are through shooting Many times when you come out, old, shot-up targets are hanging on sticks downrange. These targets fall off and become trash or have to be removed before someone else can use the range. Please, be courteous and take down your used targets. If they are still usable, put them in the target rack; if not, in the trashcans. Our volunteers who do the weekly trash pickups at the club are having to spend extra time taking down old targets. Our club is not a hotel/motel. Maid service is not provided. Please clean up any mess you might leave and return the range to the way you found it for the next member who uses the range. For Your Reading Pleasure Why I Carry -- author unknown No philosophical musings, no long diatribes about the importance of our Constitutional rights, just simple pragmatic statements: My old grandpa said to me Son, there comes a time in every man s life when he stops bustin knuckles and starts bustin caps and usually it s when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin. I don t carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed. I don t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don t carry a gun because I m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.. I don t carry a gun because I m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world. I don t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.. I don t carry a gun because I m angry. I carry a gun so that I don t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared. I don t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon. I don t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love. I don t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate. I don t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me. Police protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess. Personally, I carry a gun because I m too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'
