The Goals of the ARISE process: Teaching and witnessing to the word of God in Sacred Scripture Developing on-going communities of faith and service Implementing a strategy for adult faith formation Providing concrete and practical means of living our faith Enhancing the celebration of Sunday liturgy This program involves a weekly meeting for six weeks. We will gather in small-faith sharing groups, open to the spirit of God, seeking to grow in our faith and in our relationship with God and one another. How exciting is this for our parish! LENTEN REFLECTIONS As part of our parish Lenten offerings and Easter preparation, we will once again offer on the Thursdays of Lent, beginning March 16 th and continuing through March 30 th ~ films which will not only entertain but be a source of inspiration and conversation. Pope John Paul 2 - Mar16-9:30 AM & 7:00 PM This epic film follows Karol Wojtyla s journey from his youth in Poland through his late days on the Chair of St. Peter. It explores his life behind the scenes: how he touched millions of people and changed the face of the Church and the world; how he defended the dignity of mankind. Jon Voight s powerful, Emmy nominated performance as John Paul II was widely praised, as was Cary Elwes as the young Karol. The Island: March 23-9:30 AM & 7:00 PM This is a 2006 Russian biographical film about a 20 th century Easter Orthodox monk, Pyotr Mamonov, who plays the lead character, formerly a rock musician in the USSR, converted to Eastern Orthodoxy in the 1990s and lives now in an isolated village. Film director Pavel Lungin said about him that to a large extent, he played himself. Mamonov was first very hesitant to play in the film, but then was urged by his confessor to play the character. After the filming, one of the movie crew staff decided to stay on the island and live there as a hermit. Into Great Silence: March 30: Sixteen years after making his initial request, filmmaker Philip Groning travels to the Grande Chartreuse, a monastery nestled deep in the French Alps. For approximately six months, Groning immerses himself in the daily rituals, prayers and tasks performed by the Carthusian monks, considered to be among the most ascetic of all orders.
