Components of mentoring program: Mentor-mentee communication (usually 2-4 times per month, at EMC office) On-site trainings and seminars ( Introduction to SW Engineer Profession, OOP and C++, Making a good CV, How to pass an interview, Presentation skills, Russian language for developers, etc.) 11
Co-op program overview Scope Educational task, solving industrial problem; 1 EMC Supervisor (usually the employee, who proposed the project idea); 2-5 2 nd - 3 rd year students of leading Technical University 1 University supervisor, holding required expertise; 2-12 months duration; Weekly visits to CoE office for results checking; Professors and students grants for projects participants. Leads to Interns and Associate Engineers hiring EMC technologies Evangelism Implementation of Tools for BU Topics for future R&D projects 12
Internship Program Overview Interns are mostly master students and already hold bachelor degrees (or study at 4 th year or bachelor program); Interns participate and make a great contribution in real BU work; 5%-10% percent of Russia CoE employees are interns; 90% - 95% of interns are converted to EMC Fulltime employees after 0.5-1 year of successful internship (17 conversions in 2012). 13
R&D Program Overview Topics for external research (aligned with CoE strategy): Storage and appliances; Content capture and management in the cloud; Big Data solutions and analytics; SDN/Network virtualization. University for projects realization is selected according to its unique expertise and existing groundwork; Execution team consists of 3-5 people (Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Students); Team members are given by EMC grants for all the projects time; Projects could also be considered as a possible ways for startup spin-offs. 14
