JULY 2016 On 15th July 2016, SWCS and Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) had jointly organized a seminar. It was held at Wisma Kinsabina The theme selected for the seminar was Building Together a Sustainable Future in Wetlands Conservation, with aims; 1.) to raise awareness on the importance of wetlands; 2.) to strengthen knowledge-sharing on the conservation and management of wetlands, and; 3.) to form active networks between SWCS & SHAREDA. Datuk Haji Zainie Abdul Aucasa, SWCS President said that the seminar was a follow -up to the MoU signed on 23th October 2015 to signify the collaboration between the two parties. Those present were SHAREDA and SWCS members, Government agencies namely SWD, DID, DBKK, JPNS as well as associations like ACEM, PAM, IEM and post-graduate students from Politeknik, SIA and UMS. Among the the presentation in the seminar were including Wetlands, A Natural Speeches by Datuk Francis Goh (SHAREDA s President), Datuk Haji Zainie Abdul Aucasa (SWCS s President) and the registration during the seminar Asset That Can Blend Together With Leisure Property Development by Datuk Francis Goh, Kota Knabalu Wetlands Towards Its Ramsar Status by Guslia Lahasing (SWCS), SWCS Commitment On Wetlands Conservation Through Environmental Education Programmes by Davisthon Soitoh (SWCS), Community-Based Wetlands Conservation and Eco-Tourism Project: Case Study Taritipan, Kota Marudu, Sabah by Sabarudin Bin Samba (ANBATAR), Go Green: Hot Hot Chicken S**t by Ar. Rizal Ahmad Banjar (SWCS) and lastly CSR Opportunities with SWCS by Datuk Gerald Goh (SWCS) In his closing remarks, Datuk Francis Goh calls for the engineering and development institutions like PAM and IEM would join hands in conserving the environment through the concept of sustainable development.
PAGE 2 JULY 2016 Mock cheque handover ceremony On 24 July 2016, a fundraising event had been organized by im4u and has raised RM80,000 to be given to 4 charity bodies, namely Juara Turtle Project, Project WHEE!, Malaysian Rare Disorders Society and Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society. Some of the visitors SWCS s booth Reach Out Run is an initiative by im4u to encourage Malaysian to lead an active & healthy lifestyle. It is also a charity run event organized by im4u. Proceeds from the run will be channeled to NGOs or individuals championing causes that falls under the selected category. Previously on 21st May 2016, the im4u team, our Cause Ambassador and students from UMS had visited KK Wetlands to do some activities with us in KK Wetlands to experience our conservation works in the wetlands. Our Cause Ambassador, Siti Saleha, Malaysian Model and Actress Four representatives of charitable causes Runners for the charity run!
PAGE 3 JULY 2016 SWCS had collaborated with Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd (KPOC) to conduct a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project on 16th July 2016. It is a half day programme called Mangrove Conservation Experience Programme. The participants are energetic KPOC s staff and cheerful students from five (5) different schools. Among the activities held on the day were mangrove interpretative walk to give the participant a basic understanding on the wetlands ecosystem in mangrove, conservation work which includes tree planting and nursery work, and mangrove cleaning (rubbish collection). Participants of the half-day programme Speech by KPOC s CEO, Mr. Ahmad Tarmizi Nursery work This project is to forward knowledge on the importance of environment and its component in human s life also to produce generations more alert on the importance of protecting the environment. In this project, the mangrove forest act as a platform and source in the teaching and learning proses.
