August 26, 2016 CFA Newsletter (w/o attachments) Dear CFA Students and Parents, Is it Friday already the week has FLOWN by! We have been working diligently at getting our school ready for our teachers to return next week and for our students to return in two weeks! We are putting plans in place for a great school year We would like to start this CFA Newsletter with a HUGE THANK YOU to our CFA student volunteers who helped as tour guides and ushers at our Freshman Orientation yesterday. Many, many, many thanks to Genie Atran, Raychel Bond, Olivia Dunham, Jada Dandridge, Parris Hague, Jianna Hurt, Grace Mewborn, Adelaide O Connor, Nick Rice, Asia Wright, and Isabelle Zoulis for making orientation day a great day for our new Warriors! CFA NEWS HHS FEE NIGHT Tuesday, August 30 from 2:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. The HHS Fee Night will be on Tuesday, August 30 from 2:00-7:30! This is a change from the past years we are holding only ONE FEE NIGHT this year! There are NO ASSIGNED times you just simply stop by at your convenience anytime between 2:00-7:30. At Fee Night you will get your class schedule, pay fees, visit the CFA and FCFA table!, and pick up your laptop computer (if you have paid your fees and completed your agreement form.) Here s what you need to do on FEE NIGHT you might want to print this out and bring it with you so you know where to go! 1. COURSE SCHEDULES you can pick up your course schedule from Ms. Johnson in the SOUTH COMMONS 2. CFA INFO and TRANSPORTATION you can visit Dr. Poxon at the CFA table in the SOUTH COMMONS if you have any questions about CFA/Transportation 3. TO PAY FEES ALL CFA students will report to the CFA BLACK BOX THEATRE to pay fees! 4. LAPTOP COMPUTERS you can pick-up your laptop computers in the?? after you have paid your fees in the BLACK BOX THEATRE 5. JOIN FCFA and purchase FCFA SPIRITWEAR the FCFA will have tables in the SOUTH COMMONS and in the BLACK BOX THEATRE! Please note if you cannot attend Fee Night, you can pay your fees online in fact, you can pay your fees online now! Ms. Johnson, our HHS Counseling Director, wants to send this cautionary note:
Dear Parents, Some of you may have experienced some discrepancies in the new online fee payment system. Those discrepancies are being corrected. Please give the system at least 24 hours to be updated. If you have already paid fees, please double check the system in the next 24 hours to ensure all fees are reflected for your student. Sorry for this inconvenience. Please contact Ms. Johnson if you have any questions. So please contact Ms. Johnson if you have any trouble paying fees online! Also if you cannot attend Fee Night, you can also view your class schedule in Power School beginning Friday, September 2. BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT Please mark on your calendars that Monday, September 19 (NOTE: the wrong date was posted in last week s Newsletter (sorry!!) make sure you have the correct date! Time still TBA) will be Henrico s BACK-TO-SCHOOL night. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your student s teachers and to get to know the HHS campus. More information about BACK- TO-SCHOOL night will become available as time gets closer. TRANSPORTATION School bus information will be available for ALL students this year in PowerSchool. This includes specialty center students riding to/from the transfer hub as well as exceptional education students. All students eligible for transportation should have a bus assignment. The only exception will be those that did not complete the registration process. Parents will be able to access bus information on September 1, 2016. Refer your parents to the Henricoschools.us website for more information and links to powerschool. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Any parents or students having specific questions can contact our main number at 226-5577. We will have a Call Center opening the last week in August to assist as many people as we can prior to the first day of school. CFA 2016-2017 Calendar of Events For those of you who like to plan ahead, this is the CFA Calendar of Events for the 2016-2017 school year. Please mark your calendars now!! Please note that all performances and galleries are MANDATORY for CFA students all students receive a GRADE for their rehearsals and performances so please plan ahead NOW! For performing arts students (dance, musical theatre, theatre), you must also plan on being at rehearsal every week night leading up to a performance, and you will receive a grade for each night of rehearsal. For Visual Arts students, you must plan on hanging the show at least one night and attending the Showcase at least one night the Arts Teachers will give you more information about this. A more detailed performance/rehearsal schedule will be available in the fall, but please mark your calendars now! Spotlight Gallery to Host Through the Eyes of a Foster Child Richmond, VA The City s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities in collaboration with Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC) will host an exhibit at Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road. The Spotlight Gallery exhibit titled Through the Eyes of a Foster Child will open on August 26 with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Spotlight Gallery exhibit will be on display until September 9 when it will close with a poetry reading inspired by the exhibit.
The art exhibited will represent works by international children who are or have been part of the CCC Foster Care services. The exhibited works will express the themes of family, love, friends, freedom and hope through a variety of mediums, says Bebe Tran, coordinator of the project and CCC Foster Parent Specialist. Our budding youth artists were able to choose from creative writing, painting, drawing, sculpture, 3-D art, or photography to produce their works of art. Spotlight Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
