NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION SECRETARIAT REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF MAY,, 2010 HIGHLIGHTS The Secretariat activities for the month of May, 2010 are highlighted as follows: WEEK 1 The President, Dr. Omede Idris in company of Dr. Prosper Igboeli, Dr. (Mrs). Mma Wokocha, Dr. Henry Ewunonu attended the second edition of the Mothers day celebration organized by Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello (Iyani wura foundation) at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. The President, Dr. Omede Idris attended a workshop on Non Communicable disease in Nigeria Organised by the Nigerian Academy of Science. Letter of condolence was sent to Her Excellency, Hajia Turai Yar Adua wife of Late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua through the Katsina State NMA Executives NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris, Dr. Ben Anyene of PRRINN and the Country Representative of Save the Children Project during the second edition of the mothers day celebration held at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. WEEK 2 Press release commiserating with the family of Late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua was published in the Guardian Newspaper. Congratulatory Message to His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan published in the Guardian News paper. NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris also paid a visit to the chief Physician to the President, Dr. Fortune Fibresima. Letter of Commendation was received from NMA Kwara State on NMA representative in the Board of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Letter from standards Organisation of Nigeria requesting for nomination and comment on draft standards for Ambulance received at the secretariat. Letter from the disciplinary tribunal of the MDCN on the enforcement of tribunal decision on Dr. Nobel Oguguo, Dr. Ademuyiwa.O. Adebiyi, Dr. Olusumade Adesegun Olumide and Dr. Thomas Adekoya-Cole. WEEK 4 National Officers Committee met at the NMA National Secretariat, Abuja The NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris in company of the other members of the National Officers Committee paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Dogo Mohammed (Exe. Sec. NHIS), Dr. Alaba Lad Ojomo (Chairman House Committee on Health) and Dr. A.A. Ibrahim (Registrar, MDCN). Letter requesting for a meeting received from the Human Resources dept. of the Federal Ministry of Health inviting NMA for a meeting towards acquainting the new Minister on issues relating to CONMESS. Executive Secretary of NHIS, Dr. Dogo Mohammed making a presentation to the NMA President. Communiqué of NARD after its Ordinary General Meeting held in Abuja received at the National Secretariat. Notice of NARD 21 days strike ultimatum received at the secretariat. 2006 Population and housing census priority table, housing and amenities table received at the secretariat. ANNOUNCEMENT State AGM/Election: Going by constitutional provision, all state branches must hold their AGM within 3 months of National AGC. Only newly elected chairmen and secretaries will be invited to the August NEC.
