I spent a week in Rochester, Minn. at our 86 th National Convention. The Department had 4 members, representing 4 Detachments this year at the Convention. The city of Rochester is a great place for conventions and we had a good turnout. By-Law changes were made and each Detachment will get these changes by mail from National, we will go over them at the department staff meeting in October. One change is that there will be no more Ceremonial Uniform. All detachment Commandants and department staff should have received a letter from me back in July. I covered the Oct. meeting, State convention, and Buckeye Marine dead line, but my main reason was to get our mailing list correct. Detachment Commandants we need this so all our mail to detachments gets to the detachments. Which brings us to Officer Installation Reports, the Department request that Detachments contact the Department Commandant? Installation Reports have to be complete and sent to the Department Paymaster in a timely manner. Commandants make sure each member in your detachment has correct address at National and Department level. Ohio will Host the Central Division Conference in April 2010. The Department will also host the Department Convention in June 2010. We will need people to step up and give a hand with these events. Our next Department meeting will be on the weekend of October 16 18. We will be back at the, Baymont Inn and Suites Rickenbacker 2323 Rickenbacker Pkwy. West Columbus, Oh 43217 (614) 491.4400 Room rate is $72.00 plus tax. You have until September 25 th to make your reservation. After the 25 th the rate goes back to their regular rate. So please make your room reservation by then. I will see everyone in October, keep our troops in your thoughts and Prayers. Sr Vice Commandant s Message By Ellen Leidy I hope everyone had a great summer. I know it went too fast for me. I would like to clarify something to the Detachment Commandants. The schedule shows a Commandant s Council. This meeting is for all Detachment Commandants to ask questions, make complaints or suggestions, tell us what you would like to talk about at the business meeting, etc. All I have heard for years that you think you don't have a voice at the quarterly meetings. This is your chance to voice your concerns and questions and meet with other Detachment Commandants to share ideas. I've seen very few Commandants come to that meeting and those who bother to come say "What's this meeting all about and why am I here?" That is why you need to come or send a representative. Your voice does count, but you have to be there to be heard! Ellen Jr Vice Commandant s Message By Ray Dailey Well it is the start of new term; I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to service as Jr Vice Commandant. I returned from National Convention, Had a great time. Detachment Commandants and Paymasters/adjutants please get you recruiter forms in so the Marines can get credit for the New Leaguers. I would like to see more Detachment Commandants, or some of their staff, show up at the department meetings on Saturdays. You don t have to spend the weekend, just one day from 1300 till 1700, is all need to get a lot out of the meetings. Hope to each of you soon. Ray Adjutant s Message By Chris Clunk First, I would like to say it was good to see the detachments that were in attendance at the Department Convention. October is our next Department meeting, we would like Detachment involvement. If for some reason, a representative will not be able to attend on behalf of your Detachment, please forward your Detachment report, prior to the meeting to: 1630 South Burnett Road, Springfield Ohio 45505. By now you have probably heard about the news, as voted at the 86th National Convention. Department/Detachment Color and Honor Guards are to SUSPEND wearing the "khaki" (tan) shirt and are to change over to the "casual" or "undress" uniform, as they are prescribed in Enclosure Three (3) of the National Bylaws. Lastly, if you currently have (614) 469-1775 to display as Doc Lee on your phone, please change to display Chris Clunk instead Chris Paymaster s Report By Chuck Kiessling, PDC All transmittals must be sent to me at PO Box 38344, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138-0344. Some detachments have sent them direct to National, This practice must be stop, NOW!!!! A reminder to members wanting Life Membership, You must be a member in good standing, before you can pay your Life membership Dues. Life membership dues increased effective: 1/1/09: 35 and under: $500 36 to 50 $ 400 51 to 60 $300 61 and over $ 150 That check should be made to National Headquarters, MCL and given to your paymaster, who in turn fills out a transmittal and sends that transmittal to my address for processing at National Headquarters. Any questions, please cantact me at c.kiessling1@prodigy.net or (440) 840-1775. LIFE MEMBERSHIP REPORTS: All detachments receive their membership reports from National. Your detachment must send two copies of names and addresses of your life members to me and one of those copies will be sent to National by 12/31/09. If your detachment doesn t do so, your detachment will not receive any funds from National for their Life membership. This form must be signed by the paymaster or adjutant and your Commandant. If this isn t done, your form will be returned to you to be corrected. 7 of our 37 detachments have sent theirs in, my records show. Our Dept phone numbers to contact our Officers. Comdt. Rodney Lough (419) 469-1775

Adjutant Chris Clunk (614) 840-1775 Paymaster Chuck Keissling (440) 871-1775 Hope to see more of our members at our fall Department meeting. Remember all Installation Reports are to be sent to me when they are filled out and Installation is done. All of these reports must be in by 15 May 2010 Chuck Devil Dogs By Dan Davis, PDD Worthy Pack Leader Calling all Dogs Since Halloween is just around the corner, I challenge all dogs to come to the next growl on Saturday, October 17 th, at 1900 dressed in your BEST doggie attire. Our distinguished panel of dogs will select the Pick of the litter and that dog will be awarded a fabulous prize. So don t miss out, plan to attend our first ever Halloween Growl. Woof, Woof Woof-Woof, Dan Dog Robber By Chuck Kiessling, PDD Dog Robber TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE PACK: All members, not life members, It is time to renew your membership dues. Send your dues to your Pound Dog Robbers. Everyone, unless you are a life member must pay your dues by December of this year. To be a life member in the Order you must be a Life member in the Marine Corps League and a 5 year member of the Order and be a PDD. I have heard members say they haven t received a notice to pay their dues. Consider this your notice, pay your dues as soon as possible. Dues for the Order start for everyone on 1 Sept. of each year. If you wait until January or later your must pay an additional $2.00 reinstatement fee. And also cannot be elevated at any growl for one complete year after the date your $2.00 reinstatement fee is paid. I have many complaints from members they weren t notified. You are responsible to pay your dues on time, do not blame someone else. REMEMBER IF YOUR DEVIL DOGS DUES AREN T PAID YOU SHOULD REMOVE YOUR DEVIL DOG PATCHES FROM YOUR CAP AND UNIFORM SHIRTS. We have two pounds with small membership, Pound # 171 Central Ohio and Pound #256 H.Hesselschwardt. Marines let us make a better effort to get your members dues into your pound and send through me to the Kennel Dog Robber. We have great times at our Growls at our Department meetings and hope all of your will make a greater effort to attend. Remember most of our funds go to the Childrens Hospital or Ward in the city where we have our Department Convention. We hope more members of the Marine Corps League will become members of the order. Woof-Woof, Chuck MCLA President s Message By Judy Logan Thanks to the members who made the Department Convention s meetings. I would like to see representatives from each Unit at the Department Meeting to help support our officers for the 2010 fiscal year. Please give some thought to attending the Department Meetings, especially the afternoon meeting on Saturday. We need volunteers for both officer and chairman positions. In order to maintain our charter, we must have better participation at the Department level. The election of the 2010 fiscal officers was post-poned at the Convention. Without a Department, our Units do not have anyone to represent us at National. Unit information and questions will have to be forwarded to National, and without the Department intervention, the representation will be very difficult to achieve because of the lack of information that will be forwarded to the Units from National officers and chairman. It only takes one Saturday afternoon for each of two trimester meetings and two afternoon meetings at the Convention to participate at the Department level. All other time spent can be done in your home and through correspondence. Please consider assisting the Department by volunteering some time to the MCLA Department of Ohio.
