CONTRACEPTION This contraception short course is an update if already working within contraception, or may be a taster to confirm your interest before completing a qualification. If you are a Primary Care or Community Nurse working in the field of contraception, this short course will address your learning needs in the care of contraception. If you are a Primary Care Nurse, this workshop will address your learning needs in drivers, policies and national guidelines within primary care.. EAR CARE The short course provides the theoretical aspects of ear care and ear irrigation, and can be used alongside work-based learning for those new to the practice of ear care. It can be used as an update when revalidation is due. If you are a practice nurse, community nurse or HCA this short course will address your learning needs, either as a starter to ear care/irrigation or as a revision for revalidation. HYPERTENSION This short course provides a review of hypertension, including pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment, using evidence-based practice. MENTAL HEALTH & DEMENTIA This one-day short course provides an insight into patients living with mental health conditions and dementia. Assisting you to understand appropriate management and referral. IIf you are a Primary Care Nurse, Community Nurse or HCA this short course will address your learning needs in the care of patients with mental health problems or suffering with dementia. Linda Morrison - Programme Leader: Foundation Degrees in Health & Social Care. Linda has over 30 years experience working in mental health settings (acute inpatient, dementia units, crisis service and a peripatetic day centre) in various locations either as part of the team or managing it. Develop an understanding of common mental health conditions Explore dementia and delirium Identify when it is appropriate to refer onto specialist services Explore risk assessment and management Be aware of key legislations

MENTORSHIP This short course provides the update required by the NMC for all mentors. As well as being a generic up-date it also covers cytology mentorship update. If you are a Primary Care or Community Nurse this short course will address your learning needs in mentorship required by the NMC for generic and cytology updates. Linda Morrison - Senior Lecturer SCPHN and Programme Lead for Multi-professional support of learning and assessment in practice. Prior to working at the University, I have worked in practice as a Registered General Nurse, Specialist Community Practitioner in School Nursing and a Practice Education. I have both knowledge and experience of supporting both students and mentors within practice and I am extremely passionate about mentorship, in relation to developing our future healthcare workforce. Identify theories of learning and teaching used within mentorship to facilitate learning within practice settings, Demonstrate principles of assessment and apply these to learners in practice settings with consideration to accountability and responsibility, Describe the management and organisational issues involved in mentorship within practice settings, Review the NMC (2008) Standards to support learning and assessment in practice criteria required to maintain mentor registration.

REVALIDATION This interactive short course will help you explore and understand what is required when it is time for you to complete your revalidation with the NMC. Are you a nurse who has yet to revalidate? Then this short course will assist you on your journey to completion. On completion of the short course, a certificate of Julie Pickup - Senior Lecturer in Pre-Registration Nursing, Mentorship and Palliative Care After working in intensive care, Julie has been a Practice Education and a Clinical Skills Nurse Educator with CLIC, these roles provided skills training and mentorship for registered nurses across all settings - primary, secondary, practice nursing and private sectors. Julie has recently joined the university in a role involving both pre and post registration education, and has a special interest in both diabetes and palliative care. SEXUAL HEALTH This sexual health short course is an update if already working within contraception, or may be a taster to confirm your interest before completing a qualification. If you are a Primary Care or Community Nurse working in the field of sexual health, this short course will address your learning needs in the care of sexual health. If you are new to travel health and a Primary Care Nurse, this workshop will address your learning needs to assist patients to travel safely through a comprehensive travel health assessment, providing non-pharmacological and pharmacological intervention. VACCINATION AND IMMUNISATION This two day short course equips qualified nurses with the theory needed to provide adult and childhood vaccinations and immunisations using the national guidelines. If you are a Primary Care Nurse, this short course will address your learning needs in these areas. Day one Adult vaccinations Day two Childhood vaccinations* (Day one can be attended without day two if the nurse does not intend to provide children immunisation) Janine has worked in general practice for 20 years and is an experienced mentor and HCA assessor. The short course will explore the core areas required by the National Immunisation Training Standards (2005). 01524 384 444 *All health care professionals who intend to give or be involved in providing childhood vaccines must attend day two. If there is no intention to give any childhood vaccines, only day one is required.

VACCINATION & IMMUNISATION REFRESHER This short course provides qualified health care professionals and HCAs with a refresher on immunisations including flu, pneumonia and shingles. If you are a Health Care Professional or HCA who gives immunisations and require a refresher (incl. Flu & Pneumonia) then this short course is for you. WOUND CARE This wound care short course starts at the initial assessment, and considers healing and dressing choice, including those for special wounds, using evidence based practice and the prescribing formulary. If you are a Primary Care or Community Nurse this short course will address your learning needs in the care of wound care, if you are new to the area or wish an update. Julie Pickup - Senior Lecturer in Pre-Registration Nursing, Mentorship and Palliative Care After working in intensive care, Julie has been a Practice Education and a Clinical Skills Nurse Educator with CLIC, these roles provided skills training and mentorship for registered nurses across all settings - primary, secondary, practice nursing and private sectors. Julie has recently joined the university in a role involving both pre and post registration education, and has a special interest in both diabetes and palliative care.
