Chaplains CORNER St. Patrick is known as the Apostle to Ireland because of his missionary efforts in that country. He is known for his use of the shamrock to explain the Trinity. He is known as the composer of St. Patrick s Breastplate, a hymn of protection. He is not, according to any legend I have uncovered, known as a parade person (unless the legend of St. Paddy driving the snakes out of Ireland was wrong, and he actually paraded with them). In any event, March 17th is St. Patrick s Day, and in Kansas City we celebrate with one of the best-known parades in the nation. We also look out for our neighbors. For the 33rd year in a row, the parade organizers are partnering with Harvesters to sponsor the Go for Green Food Drive. Folks can contribute at local grocery stores and online, and it doesn t take much. Just $1.00 provides three meals for hungry people. Food for thought, and not just on St. Paddy s day! Elizabeth Suh Lane and Betse Ellis BachReach Folkways Wednesday, March 28, 3:00 p.m. Madison Living Room Join us for a BachReach Folkways performance with Elizabeth Suh Lane on violin and Betse Ellis on fiddle. BachReach is Bach Aria Soloists educational outreach for schools and members of the community. BachReach introduces Bach, Baroque, fiddle, and contemporary music in a fun, exciting, highlyinformative presentation. 6 May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live. They will cut back the perennials and spread new mulch. The Garden Committee is considering a vote over the continued development of the Memorial Garden. The subject is the use of native plants (accustomed to clay soil) versus adding more plants cultivated for their flowers in rich soil. While environmental and budget concerns and our clay soil favor native plants, floral beauty might evoke the joy of life to garden visitors. A harbinger of spring last month a bird sang for a Jefferson resident.
