Information About The Project Please describe your project and include the following paragraph headings: The Project (event, purchase, etc.) What are you proposing to do? If the Project is an event, is it new or recurring? If recurring, how long has Organization been doing Project? The Haw River Assembly is bringing the nationally recognized Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Carrboro! On Thursday, September 6 th, we will fill the Carrboro Century Center for a night if inspiring environmental films and local food and drink. Our goal is to use the film screening to inspire activism and to increase community understanding of environmental issues that our local community and our planet are facing. We will combine the films with opportunities for local non-profits to share their work and knowledge with the community. This event is also an important fundraiser and outreach event for the Haw River Assembly. About Your Organization: Who in your Organization is responsible for the Project? How many paid staff / volunteers do you have working on the Project? The Haw River Assembly is a 501(c)(3) non-profit citizens group founded in 1982 to restore and protect the Haw River and Jordan Lake, and to build a watershed community that shares this vision. The scenic 110 mile Haw River is at the headwaters of the Cape Fear River Basin, and includes the Jordan Lake reservoir, providing drinking water and recreation to NC. Tributaries of the Haw River and Jordan Lake flow through Guilford, Rockingham, Caswell, Alamance, Orange, Chatham, Wake and Durham counties. Almost one million people are part of this watershed sedimentation, wastewater, and runoff impair its waters. Our goals are to promote environmental education, conservation and pollution prevention; to speak as a voice for the river in the public arena; and to put into peoples hands the tools and the knowledge they need to be effective guardians of the river. The Haw River Assembly is dedicated to the goal of environmental justice and equality for all people in our watershed. We will have about 10 volunteers supporting this event and 3 staff members.

Ma r k e t in g how will you market the project (pls. be specific)? We will market this event though: Print posters around Carrboro and Chapel Hill Haw River Assembly Newsletter (weekly enews and one direct mailer) Haw River Assembly Facebook Page weekly posts Haw River Assembly Website We will also write a press release to send out to our media contacts and post the event on local community calendars. To u r is m En h a n ce m e n t how does the project enhance tourism in the Town of Carrboro? This event is hosted by cities and towns across the nation, and it benefits Carrboro to be added to that list of places hosting the film. The nearest North Carolina city to host is Asheville. The films are activism focused, covering a range of topics including energy, food systems, biodiversity, climate change, environmental justice, indigenous lands, protection and restoration of wild lands and waters, etc. The festival matches with the values of Carrboro, a community that cares deeply about our environmental and human rights. The Haw River Assembly is a membership organization of over 1,000 members, with especially large membership bases in Alamance and Chatham counties, and this event will bring members from across the watershed to Carrboro. Additionally, many people in the area will recognize this festival, which is known for its high-quality film selection, and it will bring in visitors from across the Triangle. Me a s u r e m e n t s what tools will you use to measure the effectiveness / success of the project? Our goal is to sell out the event venue, which can hold 175 attendees. If we can do this, we will be able to expand to a larger venue in Carrboro in the future. We will be able to track what cities these attendees are from, and we will also administer a post-event survey to judge satisfaction of the guests. Im p r o v e m e n t s if you have done it before, what are you going to do to make it better? We hosted this event in Greensboro several years ago, and it was poorly attended. We chose to host it in Carrboro this year because we think it will resonate well in this community and closer to our core membership base.

Us e o f CDTA Fu n d s what specific use will you put to the funds you are requesting from the CDTA? The CTDA funds will be used to cover the cost of bringing the festival to this area and to market the event. We are requesting this as a sponsorship, so please refer to sponsorship packet. I certify that any significant alterations in the project will be reported to the CTDA as soon as possible and that I will provide the C TDA with the required Project Report within thirty (30) days of the completion of the project.
