1 SCOTLAND (SAAS) OVERVIEW OF STUDENT AWARDS AGENCY STAKEHOLDER TOOLKIT Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) is now open for business and asking both full-time students and those applying for Part-Time Fee Grant (PTFG) to submit their 2018-2019 applications for funding from 9 April 2018. Students must submit an accurate application along with all the required supporting evidence as early as possible and before 30 June 2018 to ensure they have their funding in place for the start of their course. 01
2 YOUR HELP WE NEED Please can we ask you to encourage all students to apply as early as possible and before 30 June 2018. Actions students must take: Continuing students must keep hold of their SAAS details All students must apply to SAAS each year of their studies, even if only claiming fees Applications must be completed accurately and submitted with all required supporting evidence All students must allow sufficient time for us to request any missing documents, which is why it s best to apply as early as possible SAAS pay tuition fees directly to the students college or university 02
Dates students need to be aware of: We open for full-time applications on 9 April 2018 We are also open for Part-time Fee Grant applications on 9 April 2018 To ensure funding is in place for the start of the students course they must apply and submit evidence before 30 June 2018 Any applications received after 30 June will receive backdated payments but we can t guarantee that funding will be in place for the start of their course. Applications can be submitted up until 31 March 2019 SAAS Account Students can check their award notices online Students should check their online account regularly Students should keep their passwords safe Students will use the same account for the duration of their studies Students should upload their supporting evidence online using the SAAS Document Uploader Postgraduate applications can also be submitted online Care Experienced Students can apply for tuition fees and a bursary of 7,625 for 2018-2019 STAKEHOLDER TOOLKIT 03
Other helpful hints for students Students do not need to wait on exam results or an unconditional offer, they can apply with their top choice and change course in their SAAS Account later if needed Students must remember to apply to SAAS using the exact name that they used for any UCAS/ University or College accounts for example Jon, John or Jonathan, Pete or Peter, Roz or Roslyn Students and parents should not send original documents to SAAS Students can join the SAAS Twitter and Facebook accounts for additional up to the minute information please see section 9 for details Students can view our help videos on YouTube Students will need to wait until their attendance has been confirmed by their college or university before they will receive their loan payments from Student Loans Company 04
3 SCOT YOUNG STAKEHOLDER TOOLKIT We have teamed up with Young Scot again this year to set up a more enhanced rewards incentive system. Eligible students who submit their applications before the end of June are being given the opportunity to claim Young Scot Reward points. The earlier they submit their application the more points they can claim. Students will receive a higher rate SAAS code this year which will enable them to redeem their points depending on when they submit their application: Applications submitted in April = 750 reward points Applications submitted in May = 500 reward points Applications submitted in June = 250 reward points Anyone aged 11 to 26, living or attending full time education within Scotland is eligible to register for a Young Scot Card. http://young.scot/the-young-scot-card/ Young Scot offers a whole range of different rewards that students can exchange for points. The SAAS code is only valid for a limited period time and must be redeemed by 31 July 2018. In line with the Young Scot rewards criteria we are also offering an experiential reward of a day job shadowing one of our SAAS Directors. 05

You can access this by using the following username and password:- username : fese_admin password : saasadmin This is a generic username and password that can be used by any member of staff who helps with student support, and should not be shared with students. 08

7 PROGRAMME SAAS CUSTOMER OUTREACH STAKEHOLDER TOOLKIT Our Funding Awareness team deliver a programme of student, parent/carer and stakeholder outreach activities which include: Attending Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) events across Scotland Engaging with Secondary schools, delivering student, parent, carer, guardian information talks and application workshops Working closely with external widening access groups e.g. LEAPS, LIFT OFF, Focus West and Aspire North Delivering online application workshops Working with a wide range of organisations to promote the Scottish Government s vision of widening access to higher education Attending annual UCAS conventions In addition, we offer practical application workshops where we can guide students through their application from registration to submission. 8 FRAUD TEAM SAAS COUNTER The SAAS Counter Fraud Team are keen to hear from and engage with all stakeholders regarding any suspicions of fraud. Please contact us in confidence: Counter Fraud Hot Line: 0300 300 3138 Counter Fraud Email: SAASCFT@gov.scot Deter As well as reacting to suspicions of fraud we are also keen to hear from stakeholders to raise awareness and maximise the deterrent effect. Prevent We want to improve systems and the controls that support our operations as we know that these can disable fraud and are eager to have input from stakeholders to embed an anti-fraud culture. Detect With stakeholders help, the use of accurate information can help to identify trends and patterns and profile fraudsters. This greatly assists in the early detection of fraud. 12
