Highlights for November 2009 Job Index for November 09 up by 8.38% and almost all sectors show a positive hiring outlook Job Index at 760 indicates an upward rise in hiring activity in November 09 as compared to 701 in October 09 With the index at 1033, hiring activity for the insurance sector has surpassed July 08 levels. (July 08 represents the start of the index and was taken at a base of 1000). Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Hyderabad saw an increase in hiring activity, while Chennai saw a dip in November 09 as compared to October 09 Telecom and auto sectors saw a considerable rise in index as compared to October 09 The demand for professionals in the HR/Admin and IT software sector bounced back by 15.3% and 7.84% in November 09 as compared to October 09 November 2009 3
Executive Summary Naukri Job Speak findings for November significantly suggest a positive hiring outlook across all industry sectors thus soaring up the job index by 8.38% as compared to October 09. The Insurance sector has been the most bullish on hiring with an index of 1033 surpassing the July 08 levels and this optimistic hiring pattern has being followed by the Auto and Telecom sectors as well. As this year heads towards an optimistic finish, new horizons seem to ensure a promising year ahead. The hiring pattern has shown an upswing in 7 cities out of the top 8 cities that have been evaluated in the index About Naukri JobSpeak Naukri JobSpeak is an index of job listings added to the site every month by recruiters who are clients of Naukri.com. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 08 have been taken as a base of 1000. The July 09 index is compared with July 08. Details of trends in July 09 are presented in the next section. The charts with the corresponding numbers have been collated in the annexure. The Naukri.com Job Index is an initiative by Naukri.com to provide its stakeholders and users overview on job prospects and attractive occupations as well as a peek into industries gaining attractiveness and industries losing sheen. City-wise Analysis Monthly Trends Out of the top 7 cities, 6 cities saw an uptrend in hiring as compared to October 09 Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore witnessed a growth in hiring activity by 4.82%, 9.93%, 11.21% and 8.46% in November 09 as compared to October 09. Hiring activity in Pune has finally seen a rise in the month of November post the successive decline in the hiring index for the past four months November 2009 5
Industry Analysis Monthly Trends Hiring activity witnessed a rise across most sectors, thus pushing the Naukri index up in November 09 after a dip in October 09. With the index at 1033, hiring activity for insurance sector has surpassed the July 08 levels. (July 08 represents the start of the index). Hiring activity in Auto/Auto Ancillary and Telecom sectors was up by 17.38%, 22.98% and 19.29% respectively in November 09 IT software and hardware sector moved up by 5% and 18.35% respectively in Nov 09 as compared to Oct 09 Pharma and Biotech sectors has seen a consistent drop in hiring activity since August 09 November 2009 6
Functional Area/ Department wise Analysis While hiring activity surged across most functional areas, the demand for ITES / BPO professionals showed a negative trend. The demand for professionals in the HR/Admin and IT software sector bounced back by 15.3% and 7.84% in November 09 as compared to October 09 The demand for Sales and Business Development professionals has shown an upward trend consecutively for the past two months November 2009 7
Work Experience wise Analysis Hiring activity augmented across all experience levels in November 09 as compared to the dip that happened in October 09. Hiring activity surged up by 10.35% and 9.27% in 0-3 years and 13-16 years experience bucket respectively. Index for Total Jobs On Total Jobs (this includes refreshed jobs), the index moved up by 10% in the month of November 09. In the last six months the index has peaked to 819 for the first time and thus proves that markets have opened up and the demand for jobs are on a steady increase November 2009 9
Methodology Data for calculating the Index has been sourced from Naukri.com and is reflective of the job listings on the site. Jobs have been categorized by location, functional area, and industry. The index has been calculated across cities/ functional area- dept/ industry verticals. On the basis of job listings added to the site every month, the data shows an increase or decline in the jobs. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 2008 have been taken on a base of 1000. The subsequent months have been indexed with data of July 2008. The report produced monthly shows hiring trends across industry sectors, geography and functional areas. There might be high volatility in the case of smaller cities, niche industries and functional areas owing to a small database More than 34000 clients use Naukri.com, leading to high reliability of the data. Naukri JobSpeak has introduced a new segment on Total Jobs that indicates the movement of Total Jobs on the site. Total Jobs: (Jobs Added + Jobs Refreshed) A refreshed job is any job that was posted earlier, however has been refreshed during the month and therefore indicates that the position is still open.
