Americans Join the War Effort I. Immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor many men volunteered for military service A. Over 5 million men volunteered for service in World War II II. The US government once again initiated the Selective Service Act to add more American troops A. The draft ensured the USA would have enough troops for the all out war B. 10 million soldiers were drafted for service in WW2
Women Join The Effort I. Women were not allowed to serve in combat roles but helped the military in other ways II. WAC Women s Army Corps allowed women to fill non-combat jobs in the army which freed up men to go fight A. WAC filled office jobs, secretaries, nurses and other army positions

In the case of Korematsu vs. US the SCOTUS ruled that the internment of Japanese-Americans was allowed as a military necessity
