Happenings On the hill MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF CHAPEL HILL UMC JUNE 2018 IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE THE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL OR BY VIEWING ON THE WEBSITE, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR REQUEST TO CHCHURCH@CHCHURCH.ORG TO HELP US CREATE AN ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION LIST. Chester by Pastor Mike Snyder Chester used to stay home from church on mornings just to see if anyone would miss him. And unfortunately, not many of us did. The only ones who noticed his absence were Mr. Andrews and the Lawrence family. They were the people who usually sat to the immediate right and left of Chester. The rest of us didn't miss Chester because we didn't sense the loss. We never felt the void that his absence left. I m not saying there was no void. Of course there was a void. But it was a void that grew on us. Even when Chester attended church, he was virtually absent. He never really contributed much to church. And the rest of us were content to leave it at that. Because we didn't know what we were missing. We were always satisfied with the one-man-show that church always turned out to be. But if the pastor would have ever missed a service, then we would ve had a problem. You can be sure we would ve missed him. We probably would have sent someone to his house to get him. But when Chester stayed home so what? I m told that Chester stopped coming to our church about a year ago. Has it been a year already? Our tendency to grow accustomed to the vacancies left by the Chester s in our congregation reveals a lack of conviction that we really need each other. Someone once noted that we can't spell us without u. Did you know that you are irreplaceable? The fact is, we can't get another you. If you aren't here, we are lacking by the measure of the space you leave behind. So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
