ACTIVITIES Partnerships and Promotion Development of multiple partnerships with Ministries, Government agencies, Regional and International organizations, operators and service providers, equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers, Universities and Training Institutes, financial institutions, etc. 9 Cooperation Agreements signed between ITU and Europe and CIS Multi-stakeholders (European Commission, Government of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Institute of Telecommunication of France, Swisscom SA, Bulgarian institutions, Czech Republic, etc.)

SPECIAL INITIATIVES Private Sector The Europe and CIS region remains the most important region of ITU-D membership with 78 sector-members at the end of May 2005 The organization, in November 2003 and 2004, of the Regional Working Group on Private Sector Issues for Europe and CIS and the development of partnerships for regional and national ICT projects are expected to create new opportunities for ITU-D sector membership in the region and in particular in Eastern and Southern Europe as well as in CIS countries

SPECIAL INITIATIVES Gender issues and Youth initiatives Promoting access to, and use of, ICTs by women, men and the youth Working with developing countries and countries in transition and with the Working Group on Gender Issues, BDT had assisted in the establishment of telecenters and training programmes that target women Youth activities have attracted high level of interest from the private sector, and Alcatel and Vodafone are already partnering
