Photo Contest Winner May s Photo Contest Winner is Bryan Mecham. He stated, "This photo was taken of Santaquin Pole Canyon Pond." He captured the beauty of the area well. Congratulations Bryan! There has been a new State law passed about using fireworks, resulting in fewer days over all as compared to previous years. Fireworks may only be discharged: July 2 nd July 5 th (July 4 th hours extended to midnight) July 22 nd 25 th (July 24 th hours extended to midnight) Class C Fireworks can be sold the following dates June 24 th July 25 th. When using fireworks, keep a bucket of water nearby, light fireworks one at a time and make sure spectators are out of range of all fireworks. Children should not handle fireworks. Use caution around dry grass, trees, homes and other obstacles. The public is welcome to light their fireworks at Centennial Park on July 4 th and 24 th. Utah County Fair 2018 The Utah County Fair will be held August 15 th -18 th. Senior Citizen and Veteran s Day will be Thursday, the 16 th beginning at 4 pm. Please come and help us recognize this wonderful generation who has helped to shape our great county and state of Utah as well as the United States of America. The Seniors will have displays of their works and talents to view and will be honored Veterans throughout the day. Police Department Citizen s Academy The Santaquin Police Department recently completed their first annual citizen s academy and held graduation on May 16, 2018. Santaquin Police Department would like to congratulate the following individuals for their participation and successful completion of the program: Betsy Montoya Nick Miller Jason Bond McKell Bond Sydney Degraw Laura Ross Kolton Lerwill These individuals were the brave souls who volunteered their time and provide input to help improve the program in the future. The police department would also like to recognize all those who made this possible, which includes the Santaquin Fire Department, Payson Police Department, The Utah County Sheriff s Office, and all the Santaquin Police Officers who helped instruct the classes. CO-ED FLAG FOOTBALL: Youth Co-Ed Flag Football registration is for kids in 1 st -7 th Grade (grade they are going into this fall 2018.) Practices will start after 9/3 with games starting the end of Sept. and running through Oct. Early Registration: July 2 nd - July 30 th ($27-$35) Regular registration: July 31 st - August 20 th ($32-$40). $10 late fee will apply after August 20 th until even teams are met. Santaquin Recreation jersey is required if participants don t already have one ($13). JOIN THE TEAM: Santaquin Recreation is now hiring Soccer, Flag Football Officials and field supervisors!! Friends & Neighbors, It s hard to believe that it is already summer and that the spring time has passed by so quickly. I hope all of you are enjoying your summer time with family and friends. I also hope you have reconnected with the outdoors and this beautiful weather. I am so proud to report that the first service activity organized by the Community Service Committee was a huge success. It was wonderful to see our community come together to help a neighbor. So much was accomplished that day and I appreciate all who helped in any way that they could. I would also like to say thank you to all of the city employees and volunteers that helped make the Diamond Rio concert a great success! It was such a fun night and we are thrilled that it went as planned and everyone had a great time. It was so nice to have the new recreation building up and running which was very useful to all that attended. We will be having a ribbon cutting of the new building in the fall. Lastly, as many of you know, the city sent out our first of many citizen sponsored surveys regarding a proposed Recreation Center. I urge you to take part in these surveys so that we know what our citizens want. For those who would prefer to let your voice be heard by taking a Paper Version of the survey, please stop by our City Office, Recreation Building, Library or Senior Center. We appreciate all those that participated in the first survey. Those results can be reviewed at www.santaquin.org. Through this first survey, we found that we do not have good email addresses for many of our residents. So if you did not receive one through email, please contact the city office to update your information. These surveys will be very helpful in the future and we want your input!
