Since July 4th falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be officially observed on Monday, July 5, which is an academicadministrative holiday for the College. The Library will observe the following hours during the holiday; Saturday, July 3-9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4-1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, July 5 - Closed The P.E. facilities will be open as follows: July 3, 4 and 5 the pool, gym and courts- 11 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. The Bulletin will not be published next week. Next issue will be distributed July 16. "Misery Loves Company" Department STATE COLLEGE Summer Session enrollments in the California State SUMMER SESSION Colfe<^s are generally down, slightly or sharply, ENROLLMENT DOWN from last year's figures. Long Beach experienced a 7% decline in registrations and San Diego is down 16%. San Jose was reported to be down 15% and Fresno and San Luis Obispo are having their "worst summer session in years." Fullerton, programmed for an anticipated 8% gain, canceled 88 classes (all those with fewer than 12 registrations) as its growth-curve plateaued; and Bakersfield eliminated 21 of 60 classes scheduled (all those with fewer than 15 students) for its first summer session. When August session registration is completed, CSCSB will be within a percentage point or two, up or down, of the 1970 summer total. ie -k ik 194 STUDENTS NAMED One hundred ninety-four students earned academic TO HONOR LISTS honors during the Spring Quarter. Sixty students were named to the President's List for achieving a 4.0 CPA. Of these 17 were graduated at the end of the term; they included eight women and nine men. By class level, the President's List includes 44 seniors, 12 juniors, 3 sophomores, 1 freshman. (Continued On Page 2)
HONOR STUDENTS- (Cont'd) On the Dean's List (3.5 CPA or above) are 96 seniors, 20 juniors, 17 sophomores, 1 freshman. Men outnumbered women in the combined lists, 107 to 87. RESERVE PARKING CSCSB carpool members are now authorized by the Ad- DESIGNATED FOR ministrative Council to use reserve parking spaces CARPOOL USERS set aside for them. Beginning with this year's Summer Session, participants who have purchased carpool decals may park in the special spaces. A temporary telephone directory is being compiled by the College Relations office, which should be ready for distribution within a few weeks. All recent and upcoming moves will be reflected in the new directory. Offices which anticipate new locations or extensions are asked to notify the College Relations office. "PINOCCHIO" TICKETS AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS The Summer Junior University production of "Pinocchio" will be presented July 16 through 24 at Perris Hill Bowl. PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Larry Kramer (English) has recently had a sequence of poems published. "Water" appears in the current issue of Minnesota Review and "The Child on the Staked Plains' in Poetry Northwest. Michael Persell (History) read a paper entitled "La Mise en Valeur des Colonies: The Colonial Ideas of Joseph Chailley Bert at a colloquium on Francophone Africa: Impact and Reaction, held at Stanj.ord University June 22-24. FREE SWIMMING LESSONS OPEN TO SUMMER STUDENTS All students currently enrolled for classes are invited to attend the free swimming class at 11 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday. Instruction is available at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Regular attendance is not mandatory. No course credit will be given. 2

All Spring and Summer I.D. card holders will be admitted to film showings free of charge. Faculty, staff and guests will be charged 25t each. The new policy applies to the "popular" films only ("That Cold Day in the Park," "Wait Until Dark," etc.) and not the documentary films of the Chautauqua series. JULY 4 ALL-COLLEGE Swimming, games, cartoons and films will high- PICNIC TOMORROW light the All-College Picnic tomorrow. The picnic begins at 2 p.m. Families and friends are invited to attend. "THE RAINMAKER" OPENS Opening night for "The Rainmaker," featuring THURSDAY, JULY 15 television actor Paul Brinegar is July 15. Performances continue on July 16 and 17 and July 22-24. Curtain time is 8:15 in the Little Theatre for the Players of the Pear Garden production. Tickets: $2 adults;$1 students. A benefit performance has been added for Sunday, July 25. ^ Director William Slout, who announced the extra date, said that proceeds from the special night will go to the drama students scholarship fund. The meeting will be held at 1524 N. Western Ave., Hollywood. COLLEGE POLICE HAVE NEW NUMBER FACULTY APPOINTMENTS FOR FALL REPORTED The new extension for the College Police office, effective immediately, is 505. Over 28 faculty vacancies have been filled for the coming academic year. Among these are: Mary J, Butter (E.A., Georgia State U.; M.A., Pennsylvania State University) has received an appointment as Asst. Prof, of Psychology. Stella T. Clark (B.A., University of Mississippi; M-A., University of Kansas) will join the Foreign Language Department as Asst. Prof, of Spanish. II Clinton B. Jones (B.S, Southern University; M.A. Cal State LA; and a Ph.D. candidate at Claremont Graduate School) will join the ^ political science teaching staff as Assoc. Prof, of Political Science. In the Natural Sciences Division, John H. Craig has been appointed Asst. Prof. Chemistry. (B.S.,George Washington University; Ph.D., Georgetown University) He is presently at the University of Illinois. Ronald C. Johnson ( B.A. and M.A. University of Windsor, Ontario,^ Canada) has been appointed Asst. Prof, of Geography. The English Department will be joined by George E.
