Julian Wu to participate in PMEA Honors String Orchestra Bethel Park High School sophomore Julian Wu successfully auditioned and has been selected to play the violin in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association s Honors Orchestra Concert, which will be held on Sunday, November 10 at North Allegheny High School.
BPHS Newspaper Staff Earns 22 Awards from PA School Press Association Eight members of Hawk Eye, the BPHS on-line student newspaper, earned 2 Gold, 10 Silver and 10 Bronze Awards from the Pennsylvania School Press Association s Summer Newspaper Contest. 29 BPHS Students to Participate in Apprenticeship Programs This School Year Bethel Park High School students successfully applied and were accepted to participate in Apprenticeship Programs sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. These students will have the opportunity to work regularly throughout the school year with professionals in the Pittsburgh area to further explore career areas of interest. Two BPHS Football Players Earn Army Strong Award Two Bethel Park High School senior football players Jake Murphy and Carmen Jansante were presented with the Army Strong Award at the Bethel Park/Plum Football Game by Sgt. Bosko from the U.S. Army. The award is given to two football players who embody the seven core Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.
Mrs. Dressler Wins Radio Show Contest Washington Fourth Grade Teacher Laurie Dressler was selected as the winner of the STAR 100.7 Back-To-School Radio Contest. Each year the STAR Morning Show selects one deserving teacher and visits his/her classroom to help prepare for a new school year by decorating a bulletin board. Mrs. Dressler was selected because she recently had successful breast cancer surgery before the beginning of the school year and she definitely needed some extra help! Bubba and Melanie from STAR 100.7 came to her classroom and decorated her room with a country western theme: Fall Back Into The Fourth Grade Saddle!
District To Hold Parent Information Meeting About The Common Core Standards On October 1 Bethel Park parents and community members who would like to learn more about the Common Core Standards and how they will be implemented in the Bethel Park School District are invited to attend a Parent Information Meeting on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 PM in the Community Room of the Administration Building. Presenting at this meeting will be Director of Elementary Education Dr. Dorothy Stark and Director of Secondary Education Janet O Rourke, who will explain how the Common Core is a positive step toward more rigorous implementation of the District s curriculum.
Nominate Deserving BPHS Alumni for the 2014 Great Alumni Hall of Fame Bethel Park High School is accepting nominations for the 2014 BPHS Great Alumni Hall of Fame. This is the second year for this program which honors Bethel Park alumni who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments either personally or professionally after graduating from Bethel Park High School. If you know alumni who have significantly improved the lives of others, contributed significant volunteer or community service, or achieved significant advancement in their professional field, please consider nominating them for this award. Nomination forms are available at http://www.bpsd.org/hsalumni.aspx. The deadline to submit nominations is Thursday, October 31, 2013. The Class of 2014 inductees will be honored at the half-time of the January 31, 2014 Bethel Park High School Boys Varsity Basketball Game. Please note, this Hall is separate from the Athletic Hall of Fame.
