Texas Federal Credit Union Scholarship Texas Federal Credit Union s board of directors is pleased to announce that the credit union s annual scholarship program is now open to high school juniors, seniors and college undergraduates. Scholarships will be awarded at the credit union s annual meeting in March 2010. TFCU s scholarship application is available in the LHS Counseling Department and online at www.texfed.org/scholarship.html. Scholarship criteria: Student must be a high school junior, senior, or college undergraduate. Student must be a member in good standing with TFCU. New members are welcome to apply. The scholarship must be used for the purpose of study at an accredited community college, university, career or trade school. Scholarship funds will be paid to the accredited community college, university, career or trade school of the recipient s choice after evidence of enrollment is presented to TFCU. Areas of consideration for selection will include academic achievement, character, leadership, recommendations, and a personal essay. Student must provide a transcript of his or her first semester grades. If selected as a finalist, the applicant may be required to participate in a personal interview. The scholarship application must be received by the published deadline. TFCU employees and family members are ineligible for TFCU s Scholarship Program. Application and all other documentation must be received at Texas Federal Credit union no later than Monday, March 1, 2010. The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation The directors of the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation have announced the annual competition for over 200 scholarships to be awarded for professional and executive careers in the graphic communication industry. To be eligible to compete for a scholarship award, the student must be: Interested in a career in the graphic communication industry. A High school senior or a high school graduate who has not yet started college. A college student who is enrolled in a two- or four-year college program. All scholarship students must be full-time students. Candidates are judged on the basis of their high school academic records, recommendations offered from counselors, advisors, teachers, biographical information, which includes extracurricular interests and academic honors. The winners will be announced by letter in June or July. Application deadline is March 1, 2010. Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors Scholarship The Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors will award its annual $500 scholarship to a deserving senior at Longview High School, Pine Tree High School, Spring Hill High School and Trinity School of Texas. Each application will be judged on a point system based on: College entrance or examination score Grade point average Student s curriculum Financial need Extracurricular activities Work activities The student with the highest overall score from each school will receive the scholarship. All information submitted will be held in strict confidence. Children of Texas Bank and Trust employees and members of the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors are not eligible for the scholarship. SAMMY Award Scholarships The SAMMY Award recognizes outstanding athletes who demonstrate excellence in academic, athletic performance, leadership, and community service. Bramlette Elementary School PTA Scholarship The Bramlette Elementary School PTA will offer four (4) $100 scholarships to seniors who attended Bramlette Elementary School. Return applications to Mrs. Ray or Mrs. Milam. The Horace L. Whitaker Memorial Scholarship for LHS Seniors Only The Horace L. Whitaker Memorial Scholarship recognizes young men and women who are interested in attending college or some type of vocational or technical training beyond high school. The scholarship is limited to Longview High School seniors and is memory of Mr. Horace L. Whitaker who served as a counselor at Longview High School. The scholarship is need-based and is granted only to individuals who enroll in a two or four year college or an accredited vocational/technical program. It is endowed by initial contributions made by friends and family of Mr. Whitaker. Interest from the fund is used to provide the scholarship annually. Selection of recipients is based on: Character Leadership Scholarship Need Personal Achievements Guidelines:
1. The scholarship is restricted to a Longview High School senior and payable only after the recipient shows proof of enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college or vocational/technical program. 2. A minimum GPA of C+ is required. This average is established so as not to prevent average students from participating. 3. If a recipient does not enroll in school within one calendar year of receipt of the scholarship, those funds will be reapplied to the principal sum as soon as possible. 4. All Scholarship funds are paid directly to the educational institution when proof of enrollment is shown. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Z Club Scholarship Awarded by Zonta Club of Longview The 2010 Zonta Club of Longview will offer a scholarship for senior Z Club members. Applicants must complete an application. The deadline is March 10, 2010. Citizens National Bank Scholarship Award Citizens National Bank will offer a $500 scholarship. Applicants must: complete an application; attach a letter of recommendation from one teacher who knows you well; attach a transcript; write a one page essay on your career plans, including your need for financial aid. The deadline is March 10, 2010. Rusk County Electric Cooperative, Inc. Education Scholarship Rusk County Electric Co-op (RCEC) has a scholarship fund to assist its members graduating high school seniors who desire to further their education. Scholarships are awarded to students based on several criteria: demonstrated civic responsibility, scholastic achievement, and financial need. Qualifications High school seniors or non-traditional students (students attending private, parochial or home school) are allowed apply.
The applicant s immediate family must be an active member of RCEC. An active member is defined as a customer of RCEC electric service at their permanent residence as of January 1, 2010. Dependents of RCEC directors are not eligible for the scholarship. Application The scholarship application must be personally completed by the applicant. The application must be accompanied by the School Certification form. Two letters of recommendation are to be signed by the applicant and then completed by a teacher, principal, or counselor from the high school the applicant is attending. Letters cannot come from relatives. If the student is home schooled, the letters of recommendation may be signed by individuals in the community. For more Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarships Through its Education and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,500 annually to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice. To be eligible, an applicant must: be a minority graduating high school senior plan to attend an accredited and approved four-year institution with the United States show leadership potential demonstrate a dedication to community service present evidence of financial need be a US citizen a minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 21 not possess a degree from a 2 or 4-year college when applying for the scholarship. The required components of the Jackie Robinson Foundation application are: a compelled and submitted online application; one letter of recommendation

In order to be eligible, you must meet the following criteria: 1. Must have attended Hudson PEP Elementary School. 2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (attach transcript). 3. Must enroll in an accredited college, university, or technical school. The deadline for scholarship applications is Wednesday, March 24, 2010 and must be returned to Mrs. Ray by 1:00 p.m. on that date. The scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Senior Awards Night Program, which will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.. THE ACTUAL SCHOLARSHIP MONIES WILL BE GRANTED UPON PROOF OF COLLEGE ENROLLMENT FOR THE FALL SEMESTER. The following is the criteria for selection: 1. Completed application 2. Essay 3. GPA 4. Student signature and parent signature 2010 Longview Partnership Scholarship The Longview Partnership will award fourteen individual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Applicants must be a graduating student whose parent or legal guardians place of employment is a current member of the Longview Partnership Chamber of Commerce.
Finalists will be notified and interviewed by the scholarship selection committee, a subcommittee of the Longview Partnership s PAR BUSTERS Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic ability, merit and need. Finalists will be called for an interview. Recipients and school counselors will be notified by mail. If a student is in doubt as to whether their parent s employer is a member of the Longview Partnership, please complete an application anyway, and the Longview Partnership will verify the applicant for eligibility. Deadline is March 24, 2010. Robert Sullivan Memorial Scholarship for LHS Seniors Only The Robert Sullivan Memorial Scholarship is for Longview High School students only. Applicants must complete an application and write an essay about their future career plans. Transcript and one letter of recommendation must accompany the application. The deadline is Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Judson Middle School PTA Scholarship The Judson Middle School PTA will offer a $500 scholarship to a Longview High School senior who attended Judson Middle School for a minimum of two full school years. Eligibility Criteria 1. Must have attended Judson Middle School in the Longview Independent School District for two full years. 2. Must be a member in good standing of the current graduating class of Longview High School. 3. Must provide transcript, two teacher recommendations from LHS teachers, and application by noon, Friday, March 26. Disbursement A check in the amount of the scholarship shall be mailed to the recipient after proof of registration and payment of college tuition and fees is provided. If proof of registration is not provided to the Judson Middle School PTA by November 1, 2010, the recipient shall forfeit the scholarship. Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund, American Business Women s Association One $2,000 scholarship is available, which can be used only for tuition, fees and books. Application is restricted to women who are citizens of the United States and are residents of Texas. In August of application year, the applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must be attending or have been accepted as an undergraduate at a college or university authorized to confer degrees at or above the baccalaureate level. Application deadline: March 27, 2010 Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship The Slough Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships of up to $5,000 per year ($2,500 per semester, fall and spring only) for a total of five years or the completion of a Bachelor s Degree or a total accumulation of 136 semester hours or 36 credits, whichever comes first. Smaller amounts may be awarded on a one-time basis with no guarantee of future awards.
